Help pick a tuner

I know this has been discussed to death but I cant find anything that specific.

I have a 2006 Ford F150, reg cab, reg bed, STX 4x4, 4.6L V8.

The only thing I have done to the engine/ will be doing to the engine is a K&N fuel injection performance kit and Magnaflow exhaust. The only thing I want now is a programmer. I was looking into the Edge programmer but some people say stuff about the engine running lean.

Any comments, concerns.

Get a custom tune Telling you which one would be pointless. Just get them from a reputable source.

Edge gets you "canned" tunes and additional gauges that help you monitor your engine. The canned tunes may not play nice with other mods.

For a little more, you can get a Gryphon (rebranded Edge, what I have) and Bill Cohron at www.powerhungryperformance.com will write you three custom tunes for your particular setup. He's a good guy. Check out the website.

But, you cannot go wrong getting an XCal with tunes from Justin at VMP or Troyer at TP. The XCal does not give you the additional gauges though.

And, welcome from me too! You'll find we are all "rabid" about our favorite tuning professionals!

Another vote for the Gryphon from Power Hungry Performance, so far their service cant be beat and that is 50% of the reason to buy a tuner, SERVICE afterwards !

Consider also that with an SCT X-Calibrator, you simply install the tune and you don't have to drive around with the device plugged into the OBD II port.

Why is this important? For me, it was because I didn't want someone to see my tuning device sitting in the truck, smash my window, and steal it. I see it every day with people who have Global Positioning Devices and Satellite Radios. This is the main reason why I backed off from buying the SCT Livewire & the Edge Evolution.

What I did do was buy a little ScanGauge II device. With the ScanGauge II, I simply unplug it and take it with me when I park the car. On a side note, I have used the ScanGauge II to read codes and clear the "Check Engine" light on several of my friends' cars - a service which most mechanics charge for.
