Superchip chip.

I while back, I got suckered in to buying a Superchip 1715 that was VIN locked. I had alot of good input from people on how to handle the situation, who to call and even suggestions for a better programmer.

Now I have another problem just when things looked up. A friend of mine sold his 97 expy about 2 years ago and kept the Superchip chip from it. It's not a program but a chip. Mines a 98 with the exact setup. Even the code on the computer match the chip. LZ02

There is a procedure to clean out the contacts at the PCM. After doing this and the rest of the procedure, here is what happens:

I get a hard start, theft light blinks, service engine light stays on and there's a pile of black smoke out of the exhaust.

For the record, the battery was disconnected.

Don’t know for sure, but if that’s the right chip for your truck then the pins weren’t cleaned good enough, they have to be spotless for a good install.

Is this a Blue chip?

Yes, it's a blue one. Not sure what the colors mean though. Can't really find a whole lot of info out there on them.

I cleaned the crap out of the pins man. This is weird.

Still got it. I got the blue chip for free off a buddy. If the blue chip don't work wich seems to be the way, then it's time to invest in a tuner. I figure there's no point paying 2 bills plus shipping to fix the 1715.

I'd rather put that towards a newer and improved tuner.

Someone was telling me that this blue chip can be custom tuned. Is this true?

your best bet would be to contact superchips, or a tuner like Justin at VMP,

www.vmptuning.com

Im sure he can educate you with the correct information, possibly save you some headache, or a possibly a hurt motor.

It's better than getting told the wrong info on the forums by members who meant well. Talk to a pro!

Superchip (single program) for 1987-2003 FoMoCo Vehicles
1100 Single Program Superchip, for most 1987 & up gasoline engine FoMoCo vehicles except V10's.

Some of the vehicles this can be used on are: Bronco & Bronco II, Crown Vic, Escape, Expedition, Explorer, F-150's (all models including Lightning & supercharged Harley, etc.), F-250 Light Duty, Focus, Lincolns (except LS) Mustang (GT, Cobra, etc.), Ranger, Taurus, Thunderbird ('87-'97), SHO, etc.

Power gains average 10% more HP, and 13-15% more torque. Automatic transmission shift characteristics are recalibrated and improved for reduced slippage, quicker and firmer shifts (in direct correlation to the amount of throttle opening), etc.

The Top Speed Limiter is removed (or raised so high the vehicle can never hit it, like 180 mph, 220 mph, etc.), various transitional delays & retards are adjusted to improve overall powertrain response and performance.

Optimizing the powertrain program is generally the best "bang for the buck" performance enhancement you can add to your vehicle.

Note: Requires the use of premium gasoline, 91 octane or higher. Can be used with common bolt-on modifications such as intake kits, cat-back exhaust systems, electric fan conversions, underdrive pulleys, etc.

Custom tuning available at additional cost for more involved modifications such as superchargers, ported cylinder heads, camshaft changes, aftermarket MAF's, larger fuel injectors, etc.
