I was getting great gas mileage from my truck when it was stock, so when I added the exhaust and a tuner, I was very happy to be able to drive it as I do and not lose any mileage.

It is not so much what we drive...but the way you drive it. I see Cowboys and rednecks everyday nailin' it off the light, driving like there is no tomorrow just to get to the next red light.

You've really gotten some good advice from the majority of the posters in this thread, so I'll just add a few small thoughts.

Like OpenClassPro said, you're not going to see a huge increase in mpg no matter what you do with a gas engine. If if was a diesel, maybe you could mod it and get a payback eventually.

Racing2Fast gives you the real payoff by installing mods such as a programmer. You'll love the way your truck responds to the gas pedal. It won't really save you money, but it will be more fun to drive!

And, here's my 2 cents: If 90% of your driving is in the city, you probably don't need any of this. Most of the "macho" mods are going to suck gas (and make a lot of noise). Do we need more noise?

I have a Gryphon, tuned by Bill Cohron at www.powerhungryperformance.com and I got it for highway driving while pulling a trailer. You will get similar performance increases from TP (Mike Troyer) or VMP (Justin Starkey) using the Xcal programmer. The mods are for driving enjoyment, not really for saving gas.

Be forewarned: if you go with Troyer, be prepared for a 2-to-3 month wait.

I ordered my tune from Troyer, and was told in advance about the wait. (My tune was ordered in March, and so should be here any day now)...This is not a complaint; I knew the deal from the very start. They are VERY busy, and their business is apparently VERY good, hence the back log. However, they are also apparently VERY good at what they do.

Any good custom tuner will have a long wait time, because of the backlog of tunes to write.
