Superchips anyone

I am going to try a superchip programmer this weekend and wondered what other people thought about them? And do you need to unhook stereo amps and shut off fuel before using the programmer? Thanks all

Why not get a custom tuner like a Xcal2?

The old Superchips tuners were OK but I no nothing about the new ones. But to get satisfaction, IMO, you’re going to end up with a custom tune from someone, so my advise would be, get something that can be custom tuned either now or later

I had one on my 04 and now have one on my 07 and you can tell the difference between stock and tuning. Wouldn't own an F-150 without a tuner. Mine is for sale by the way. Reason being is I plan on keeping the truck for a long time and decided to try custom tuning. Had I continued my buying a new vehicle every 2 years I would have kept the superchips and been totally happy.

Still have my superchip plugin behind ecm, just can't seem to want to part with it! Eight years and counting, maybe when i put some ported heads and cams I'll put some custom tunes! I know I will! lol!
I know without my chip truck is a dog.

I had the 1714 SuperChips for my 04 F150. Exhaust/Intake, and on the 91+ High Performance Tune, it was a great tuner, and I never had any issues with it. I kept it for several months and actually still have it. But I found a X-Cal2 for a great price and after reading a few post on custom tuning from VMP Tuning I purchased the X2, and 3 custom tunes from VMP. His Custom 87 runs almost as strong as the 91+, and with the 93 Performance Custom TUne, it's a different truck!

To answer your question, the tuner shold prompt you on the steps needed to load a tune. I DID NOT have to unhook the fuel pump fuse or anything. Look on SuperChips home page for the specific tuner you'll be using and read the user manual. It'll prompt you on what steps are needed. I can only vouch on my 04.

Ohhhh...... and I strongly encourage you to go the custom tuned route!! Although you get a descent gain with the Canned Tuners!

Good Luck!
Tom

I've got the Micro Max and can tell a difference, nothing radical and after reading forum reports about tuners decided to go with a canned tune first time out. I bought mine new off ebay for $209.00 and am happy with that investment but if I had payed $400.00 the full price I would not be happy. With my engine set up I have now all I was looking for was firmer shift points and the Superchips met the need.
As I learn more and have a greater understanding of what you can have done through a custom tune my next choice will be a custom tune performed on the dyno.
Note: If you start with the Performance 93 set up you will not want to go with the 87. Even as premium fuel prices keep going up I can't stand the thought of going with the 87 setting.

I just installed it under the 87 octane program since i'm not running 91 octane right now i did not do the performance program. Has anyone else did the 87 octane one? just curious if you noticed a difference in it.
