I know you're new so I'm not going to rip you to pieces like some members would do. But try using the search, it helps out a lot.

There aren't chips for these vehicles, just programmers. The most common programmers around here are the Xcal2, Xcal3, Edge, and Gryphon. I highly suggest getting a custom tuned Xcal2 from Justin at www.VMPTuning.com though. If you decide you want the Edge, don't get it. Get the Gryphon. It's just a relabeled Edge that has custom tunes. The website for that is www.powerhungryperformance.com. A custom tuned Xcal2 with 3 custom tunes of your choice will run you $395 from VMP Tuning. Here's the link. http://www.vmptuning.com/store/index...=138&parent=66 A custom tuned Gryphon with 3 custom tunes will run you $495. Here's the link. http://dygytalworld.ehost-services10...fg150-0408.htm

The best part about the Xcal2s are that if you get some major mods, you can have the vehicle dyno tuned. No one tunes the Gryphon other than Bill at Power Hungry Performance. Also if you decide to get a new vehicle, etc and it's a newer Ford, you can use the Xcal2 on the new vehicle. Just buy new tunes, tunes sell for $50 a piece.

Programmers only void warranties if the programmer caused the malfunction or the problem. Some dealers will hassle you about it and say your warranty is voided but that's not the case. If you're window switch goes out, they can't deny the claim. If you're motor blows up because of pinging than you're on your own. Don't let that scare you, tuning if done by the right person isn't going to be dangerous. Some say dealers can track it. This holds true for the diesels with no doubt. I don't believe the gasoline motors are the same. I believe the only thing that happens when the vehicle is reflashed is a code is thrown saying a drive cycle needs to be completed. The code would come up if the battery died, was disconnected, or the PCM was reflashed. So in the end I believe, no the dealer cannot track it. I'd just load the factory tune before going to the dealer for anything.

Many members on this site also go to Mike Troyer for custom tunes, he has over 16 years experience tuning F150s. www.troyerperformance.com or give them a call and talk to Mike, you'll be amazed by what he knows. He also is a SCT dealer and can tune the xcal2 or xcal3 programmers. I've run his tunes for almost 15k miles and they are just simply awesome (and safe).

The Xcal3 is the newer version. I believe it has a little bit bigger screen, a little different design, and it's able to support a few more vehicles. It's not a lot different. It actually had a bunch of firmware problems when it was released. I believe those kinks are worked out but like I said before, the Xcal2 is tried and true, it gets my vote.

Hi there,

The following is paraphrased from our Gryphon product manual:

Consumers of aftermarket products are protected by the Federal Magnusson-Moss Warranty Act. The Act states that if something breaks on your vehicle and you take it in for warranty repair, the dealer must honor your warranty unless whatever modifications you have added to your vehicle actually caused the problem in question. The reality is that many dealerships have been known to void warranties on vehicles that use aftermarket products as a matter of policy. This applies in particular to those aftermarket products that produce horsepower, such as performance enhancement “chips,” modified intake manifolds, or aftermarket exhaust systems, regardless of product brand. Any aftermarket company that does not acknowledge this is misleading you.

Hope this helps.
