hey guys...honestly im about to sell this lemon! Ive posted twice about my truck in differant forum areas but no replies. I really wish someone could help!! Long story short my warranty has ran out. I just bought an extended 3 yr/75K. However has a 30 day waiting period before I can use it. I will drive my truck 15 minutes and the truck will beep twice. Then the temp gauge will peg out to hot and get check gague error. I can turn the truck off and back on and goes to its normal tempture. Happens every time I drive the truck. I took it to the dealer and think its the coil pack. Not sure how there getting that to be honest. But there $200.00 a pop so will wait 30 days for my warranty to start and will take it to them. They said thats what they would do. I started to buy a temp senor and try replacing it but they dont think thats the isssue. shrug

I have already paid for A 87 custom tune from bill but havnt worried about it at this time. First thing is to figure this problem out.

The coils are about $60 each from autozone. You can get a whole set off ebay for around $80. Where is the beep coming from? Im guessing a warning tone from the dash telling you to look at the gauge? Could be the gauge pod is faulty and thinks it is getting a overheating message. I dont see why the coils would be causing the temp gauge to peg though? Which dealer did you take it to?

Bill told me that he already PMed you, but I wanted to mention it to you again... give him a call, and maybe the two of your can put your heads together to figure out what's going on with your truck.

Thanks for the info on the coils. The beep sounds like its coming from under the dash. Yes it could be the gauge but trying to start from the cheapest and eastest to replace first since no ones knows for sure. Im taking it to dealer here downtown. Im still up in the air on what im going to do.

Thanks!

Since you have an Edge, have you set its gauges to monitor the Eng Oil Temp, Cyl Temp, and Coolant Temp too? If you really have an overheating problem, those gauges should spike right along with your dashboard temp gauge. But, if they stay down, you could pretty much count on it being the dash gauge or its temperature sender (I guess they still use those - maybe not though).

At any rate, if the coolant temp is really going high, you can bet the oil and cyl temp would rise too.

And, I'd do like Corey says, call Bill! He knows these trucks.

Well,

I talked to him for a bit and we kind of have the idea that he may either be a touch low on coolant or may have a bad CHT (Cylinder Head Temp) sensor. I doubt it's low coolant, but anything is possible. The P1285 is certainly a tip-off though.

Later.

Hey there,

Bill actually told me today that he had to turn his PMs off because he had some from FOUR weeks ago and more keep coming every day! I believe that as of yesterday, he was DOWN TO 60 e-mails or so. That's saying a lot considering that we get about 20-30 every day. I try to answer as many as I can about the Gryphon and such, but so many people have questions that only he can answer. The quickest way to get an answer from him is to call. I'll probably answer, but if you ask for The Man, I'll hand you off to him.

Thanks for your patience; it's truly appreciated!

Just wanted to say thanks Corey & Bill for taking the time and talking with me today. The coolant level was fine. I went a head and stopped by Ford and ordered the CHT just for kicks and worth a shot for $19.00. It wasnt in stock but will be there tomorrow by noon they said. I'll stop by and get it tomorrow and put it on the truck. I wont have time to really test it going hunting tomorrow evening and gone for the weekend.

Oh that was pretty cool using the Edge to find out the P1285 code! Thats a great plus when looking at a tuner! Not sure why I didnt think of that! :o Thanks Again for everyones help, Ill keep everyone posted!!

Bird down!!

On behalf of my husband (and me, too!) you are most definitely welcome. I hope you and Bill are headed in the right direction with your truck. Let us know how it turns out!
