Using Edge Programmer in Cold Temps
Using Edge Programmer in Cold Temps
I just got an Edge for my 99 F-150 4x4 5.4L and I live in Northern Canada. In the manual,it says not to program the vehicle in temps below 0 degrees. In the winters here, it's not uncommon to see -40 degrees. What issues will I see when using the Edge in these temps?
There is not a product made that likes it cold, Specially electronics. I would think it would be fine if you let the truck warm up and got it warmed up under the hood and in the cab, but that is just a guess.
as far as i know, when programming with edge it uses a ton of battery power.thats why most instruction say to make sure all accessories are off when tuning.if you try to change programming over and over in a short period of time you will actually kill the battery after about 3 or 4 tunes(been there done that)so just make sure battery is up to charge before tuning.as far as using those tunes in cold weather you should have no trouble.

I'm in Edmonton and when we got those cold days I just pull the Edge and leave it tuned to what ever setting I am using. After a while it gets a little annoying so I just put it back to stock, pulled the Edge and waited for it to warm up. The only issue I encountered was that the LCD screen didn't react well to our temps but after the truck warmed up it was fine.
Next winter I'm just gonna leave it in stock due to the fact theres barely any benefits to running the Edge when its that cold (-30C and below) and snow everywhere. My gas mileage sucks anyways in the winter and performance is the last thing on my mind...lol
My 2 cents
