Question XCal2 and Troyer worth it?

Is it worth it for someone who doesn't have a highly modified truck?I just want to get a little more out of the stock motor. Maybe get rid of the acceleration delay when I try to pass someone on the freeway. I want to continue to run 87 octane gas and don't really plan on many future mods except for possibly intake and exhaust.not too concerned about gas mileage.I don't tow anything. I love my truck ('o6 SCrew)and just want the motor to perform the way it could and should. That being said, is the Xcal2 the way to achieve this?? Thanx as always for your help. one other thing. Is this a set it & forget situation? The last thing I want is to start messing with the truck and have to monitor readings and datalogs and ranges and any other minutia that will only give me a headache. Is it worth it for someone like me? Thanks again

sure it is, I've just sent my datasheets in this week for 97 bone stock f150 4.2L v6. I just want the same, more power to make it run better and be more fun to drive. No extreme mods in the future for this motor so I think its worth it. IF you are going to order it from TP then get the xcal 3, its the same price as the xcal 2 but you get 3 canned tunes +3 custom tunes. That way you can run the canned tunes until Mike has your cutome tunes ready. From what I've read and the guys in my local club who have Mikes tunes its just set it and forget. But if you call TP I'm sure they can answer that question.

Absolutely. I dont plan to highly modify my truck in the near future, im just running a Troyer tune with intake and exhaust, and let me tell you it is SO worth ever little penny. Even a stock truck will have huge benefits with a tune over the stock program. I highly recommend it.

I was kind of wondering almost the exact same thing myself. I've been driving my truck alot more that I used to - I normally walk to work, so there was a period when it saw very little use.

Anyways, I don't plan on any serious mods. In two years, its going to be my sons first vehicle. Assuming he doesn't wreck it it will go on to my middle, and so on. I for sure do not want anything more than set and forget.

Anyways, I look forward to the replies.

It’s been years since I had my Xcal2 plugged into my own truck so it’s definitely been set it and forget it for me. I use it (XCal2) occasionally to read codes and clear codes on friends and family vehicles, it works on all Fords with an OBD port

My experience with Mikes custom tunes have been positive and uneventful in a good way; never had a single problem

Exactly, Racing2Fast just got his tunes in 10 or 11 days like that.

Hell he was getting impatient after that wait, I can't imagine if he would of went with Troyer.

it is definitely worth having the tunes even if you don't do any further mods! When I flashed mine back to stock to take the vehicle in for a recall I couldn't believe how slow it was.

Well you're the first person to ever say that you got a tune from Troyer in five days. I hope you feel very lucky !!

I can't even get a damn socket from Sears.com in five days.

Most of the old guys around here know that me and mike troyer butted heads alot when I first came here. I didn't believe a word he said and told people to go another way forever. I even went as far as to call him out on the boards. Then I said, wtf I'll try it he's got a promotion going on anyway. I called and talked to the man, he acted as if he had never read any of my posts and we were on a clean slate. I've never dealt with a classier guy in my life. To this day I recommend his tuning skills on the mod motor platform to anyone and everyone who is considering tuning. He turned an additional 23rwhp out of my navigator over my other custom tune, which had been tweaked 5 times and caused me tranny issues. As a matter of a fact, I have a pretty much bone stock 98 Mark VIII I just bought and I have already talked to Mike about tuning it for me. Not only did we discuss tuning, he gave me some advice from his personal experience with the cars and their kinks. (yup, mike drove marks back in the day!) I've never met the man in person, but you can bet your *** I'd vouch for him in a second. You can't go wrong with the TP Xcal2 custom tuning, I guarantee it
