Transfer an XCal

I'm looking into buying a used Xcal3 from a fella on here. I was curious if they are tranferrable? It was my understanding that once a programmer was coded to a truck, it would not be able to be transferred, unless it's decoded, I guess. Help me out some here on this little mess I have going on in my head.

It won't be a problem as long as the person you buy it from returns it to stock. I think you will have to clear it then using SCT software Live Load. I didn't have a problem switching it from my 04 to 07 F150. Just read it is Xcal3 and I have an XCal2 but should be the same.

Just make sure he returns his truck to stock. First thing I recommend you do is update the Xcal3. The early versions of the Xcal3 had a lot of firmware issues. This will save you a lot of headaches. You can buy a tune for $50 specifically for your truck. Download "Live Load" to load the tune once you receive it from your tuner.

When I go to the site, it just says Ford flash drive, will it work on any motor or what? The guy said he took it off his '05 and installed it on as '03 which is a totally different truck and he said it works just fine on it.

I'm pretty sure it'll be able to work with any vehicle that has a ODBII port. Of course, you'll have to get new tunes for that specific vehicle but that's not a big deal compared to having to buy a whole new programmer like you would with an Edge or comparable product.

Well, yall've been a lot of help, but he sold it out from under me so I'm going to have to find another route now or something. Thanks for all the insight. I, and everyone else who has read this thread, are more knowledgable about the Xcal3 thanks to you.
