Tuner Advice

I want to get a Troyer tuned Xcal but want it more to help me a little on gas. I will be traveling 80 miles/day for my new job and want to try to save a little gas but don't know if it would be worth the money. I was also thinking of getting an intake kit. Would any of these do anyting worth spending the money or should I just buy a drop in filter and hope for the best?
Thank you

Troyer can make you a gas saver tune. Give him a call.

If you want it JUST for saving gas, then you should know it takes a long time to pay for itself. That's goes for both the intake and the tuner. However, if you're only using the saving gas theory to justify getting tunes and/or an intake, then go for it. It will help. Do them both at the same time for the best results.

Even a gas saving tune from Troyer will still net you much better power, driveability, and transmission shifting. It is well worth it. Call them up, they will tune it to your needs.

I agree. I'm just saying it won't pay for itself for a really long time. But as far as justifying to someone else or even yourself, saving gas sounds like a good enough reason to me. Go for it.

X2, but just having a tuner will improve things.

I have a "stock" Edge and it has eliminated the throttle lag I noticed almost immediately when I started driving my truck. I also think the shifts are much quicker when I'm stepping on it to pass. There's none of the "do I shift or not?" kind of feeling I used to have.

So, I like my truck better, in spite of the way it drinks gas.

I'm sorry Fifty, I don't get it. Maybe I've just lost the few brain cells I thought I had? :o

Buying a tuner for merely a gain in mileage isn't the best idea. $400+ can buy a whole lot of gas even at todays prices. It's going to take forever to pay for the device, none the less to start making a "profit" on your investment.

Now if you want better gas mileage as well as more power than a tuner would be a great idea. My personal suggestion is to get a custom tuned Xcal2 with a 93 octane gas mileage tune. I've used Justin at VMP Tuning for two of my vehicles, a 2006 F150 5.4L and a 2008 Mustang GT, and I have had GREAT results with VMP.

Thanks for all the input. I will probably wait until my rebate comes in then call both Justin and Troyer and see what all they have to say. With driving that many miles everyday and towing a boat on the weekends I probably will get some custom tunes and a good intake.

So does anyone here know if Mike or Justin is able to unlock an xcal II? If not do you know where I would need to go to get that done besides SCT?
Thank you

Justin or Mike should be able to assist you with that issue. Im unsure of what Mikes policy/cost would be for that but the link below is from VMP Tuning. 75.00 to unlock the X-Cal... Check out the link, it's the 2nd one from the bottom.
