Excellent thread, excellent posts!

I think you all (Evo owners) should focus on what Bill said originaly, i.e., "drivability issues".

To me that translates to he can still write tunes for you, just can't say so on open forums such as this.

Y'all should just probably give him a call and don't worry so much. His talents with that device don't vanish with some edict from Edge..

i agree on the comment in the last paragraph of your last sentence bill-but comparing a device that adds power to a weapon which in the wrong hands that can lead to something bad-ie crme or death, true it's all in the hands of the beholder, but using these two things for comparisons is a little ludicrous-i guess your point is the gov't in some form wants control over everything?

I think his analogy was spot on. It shold be the consumer's responsibility to use the product within the limits of the law and not the manufacturer. The government shouldn't punish those who remain within the law because of a few bad apples. But at the same time, I guess if you're not getting the results you want by doing things one way, you have to try another way.

Hi Bill - I hate to quote just one sentence from all that you have said here, but it helps make a point.

Troyer and VMP do in fact dyno and datalog all of the retunes they do , but by proxy. That is, the customer is responsible to get to a dyno(or track) to datalog with their Xcal.
The standard SCT method is to send a base line tune to a customer, which the customer installs and datalogs, and sends the information back to the tuner for recalibration.

I know what you're saying. You're just looking into it too much instead of just realizing the point he was making. That being said, I'm not going to post on this again. Continue on with the topic of the thread.

+1 . He's not comparing the way the two devices are used, he's comparing the restrictions and censorship of the devices. It DOES hurt the consumer who has to jump through added red tape and legal alleys to obtain a product that they are going to use in the manner intended. But there's always someone out there who doesn't want to play by the rules, whether its a firearm, a vehicle, or even a tire iron. Things get abused, and it's ridiculous to hold the manufacturer accountable for millions of products that they produce and distribute, when its less than .5% of those products being mistreated. Consumers lose the choice and diversity in the product, suppliers lose business, and the people who produce these products see less demand, therefore less jobs. Granted tuners, in the scheme of things, are miniscual. We'll all sleep at night, life will go on. But it's an increasing trend in the way responsibility and blame are taken off of the CONSUMERS shoulders, where it belongs. If you mistreat a can of HAIRSPRAY and do harm to a human, creature, or inanimate object, you should be held accountable. Not Tresemme.

i think what you meant to say is that "we SHOULD be in control, not the government". Being freshly medically discharged out of the Army, I've gotten enough political b/s to last the rest of my less than normal life. The power SHOULD be in the hands of the people, but you never know if who you think you're voting for is really what you're getting. Needs to be just as easy to get voted out, as it is voted in. Just my opinion.

As interesting as the gov bashing is lets try to get back near the topic. Bill, i guess my plan for the edge and custom tune is out for now but what about some beta testing of this new product. I went to your website and did not see anything on up front any hints for the forum? I was gong to apologize for hijacking the thread but others have taken care of that for me.

No worries...

Wife is working on the website and hope to have it ready to go tomorrow. I have been in Alabama all day working on a really sweet 7.3L that's going to be in a movie so I haven't had time to help her get the website ready for launch.

All I can do is ask you to hang tight 1 more day.

Bill, the "private" labeled version you speak of, is it basically an EDGE that does not have there name on it? Kinda like a generic version. Identical to the real one except the name. I take it that is the gryphon programmer in your sig?

For those who have a real EDGE and want your custom tunes, will there be some kind of trade in program to upgrade to the "BILL" programmer?

For everyone who has an EDGE now, just read between the lines. When you add a CAI, you now have driveability issues.

Just got off the phone with Edge. Here's the deal...

For current Evolution owners, I will be able offer a "trade-in" on your current units in order to get the Gryphon upgrade. This eliminates the problems for Edge regarding the compliance and allows me to provide the tuning for the units.

Yes, as you have guessed, our units are basically Evolutions that are rebranded as the Gryphon. They are physically identical to the Evolution including the pod. We will be offering some cool options down the road such as different case colors (black cases and clear, see-thru cases are already in the works) and a different LCD display with a negative display image (background is black, text is clear/colored) is also being looked at.

If you have any questions regarding our trade-in policy, please contact us directly.

I now take back all the negative things I thought about Bill and Edge this weekend. Will there be something on your website soon?
