edge switch to another truck

my dad has a 2001 F150Super Crew 5.4 and his check engine just came on...i have a 2000 F150 5.4 with the egde evo in it...can i take my edge out and check my dads code with the edge??? sure dont want to mess up my edge tho

Should be no problem as long as you return your truck to stock before you remove it.

You don't even have to "untune", it will work fine without doing it. You can do the diagnostics and performance testing on any vehicle the Edge will recognize, used mine on a Lincoln LS couple of times, never returned to stock, and still works fine.

Correct, just unplug it out of your truck and than read the code on your Pop's.

Have him clean the MAF sensor with electronics parts cleaner. I have seen this alot, especially if he uses an oiled air filter. The oil causes faulty readings on the sensor.
Not saying this is the problem, just a likely one.

so i checked it out with my edge and it came back as, P0125
Insufficient coolant temperature for closed loop fuel control.... what the heck does that mean???haha...i cleared it and going up north this weekend with it...so we will see what happends.

The coolant is not getting warm enough for closed loop, so that means it will be in open loop the whole time which ='s really bad gas mileage. Possibly a stuck open thermostat.
