Need Your Guys Input
I have a 2003 F150 SC SB 4.6 3" Cat back exhaust and a K and N drop in filter soon to be AF1 CAI. I was looking at getting a edge evo or somthing like it. I went to a local dealer that carris edge, bully dog, banks, and a couple others. I talked to them and they told me on my truck it would be pointless to put anything on because my truck is a 5 speed. They said that the biggest thing that the tuners/chips help with is tranny shifts and since mine is a manual that it would be a waste what do you guys think?? I do like the edge the best because of the display but is it a waste of money or what???? Thanks for any help
They are right about the tranny shifts wont help you much. But i have noticed there is more torque with my Edge than without, and there is a difference from level 1 to level 3. How much i am not for sure. I am off to a dyno in about 3 weeks to find out. I will post the results.
When Edge dyno tests the calibrations, the power gains are achieved from a single gear, locked converter test. This would best simulate the testing procedure used with a manual transmission, so the power gains you would find on an automatic vehicle would be similar to a manual transmission.
With that said, I agree that a large part of the tuning is controlling the "feel" of the transmission and even small gains in power can feel like significant improvements with different shifting strategies. However, the power increases are significant enough to warrant use on a manual transmission equipped vehicle.
Hope this helps.

It's also a safe bet to go with Troyer Performance and get an XCal. Both have custom options that are modifiable by the user (you) and both have the ability to have custom tuning done for them. Troyer does the XCals and I do the Evos. There are a couple folks that have had a good experience with Justin at VMP, but I don't know much about them. In any event, deal with any of the vendors on here and you can't go wrong.Good luck on your decision.
