Updating with Fusion vs. Lightning

Okay... I hope I can clear this mess up for you guys and avoid any future problems.

There has been a great amount of consternation over whether or not to update to FusionOkay... I hope I can clear this mess up for you guys and avoid any future problems.

There has been a great amount of consternation over whether or not to update to Fusion and there have been problems with those who have updated to Fusion and then tried to update their Evolutions. Here’s the deal, down and dirty...

From the Evolution Main Menu, go to [Diagnostics] and then [Version Info].

If you have an Evolution with Version # 3.xx.xx (i.e. 3.22.28) DO NOT USE FUSION to update your Evolution. This also means that if you haven’t already done so, DO NOT UPDATE THE SOFTWARE. If you do, it will automatically spawn a Fusion install which wipes out Lightning and Lightning 3. This older platform Evolution needs to use Lightning to handle updates.

If you have an Evolution with a Firmware Version of 1.0.xxxx and a Calibration Version of 2.50.xxxx, then Fusion is perfectly capable of handling the updates.

If you have already run the automatic software update and installed Fusion and you need to get back to Lightning, you can download it from http://www.powerhungryperformance.co....htm#utilities
or from
http://www.edgeproducts.com/updates/LightningSetup.exe

Hope this helps.

Bill

Alright now I'm confused.
My Edge Specs.
EEF2400
LOT#020704
SER#000007354
Ver. Initial 2.1
DOM 2-16-2007
Firmware 2.50.3657
Calibration 1.0.3839
Hex RXCM5A6

Do I use Fusion or not? I just tried to update my Edge and according to lightning I have the most current updates. I was not prompted to download Fusion when I hooked the Edge up and on their website they say only use Fusion for version 3-12???? WTF? And then Bill says this
If you have an Evolution with a Firmware Version of 1.0.xxxx and a Calibration Version of 2.50.xxxx, then Fusion is perfectly capable of handling the updates.
Mine is just the opposite. Bill You out there???

You are correct, I reversed the Firmware and Calibration I guess. In any event, you would use Fusion. If you had a ver of E3.xx.xx, you would use Lightning.

Sorry about that.

Alright! All is good in the hood. I downloaded the Fusion software and it did not replace the Lightning software. I can still use both of them! The Fusion software was very easy to use, almost to easy. I dont like how you can only update but I understand this is a work in progress. 2 question's, how come the Edge does not power up like it did with the Lightning software? How do I know if an update is Beta or Release?? A Here are the new Edge specs

Firmware 2.50.4482
Calibration 1.0.4430

I did a custom tune on LVL2
speed limit-130
shift firmness- 1-2 +10 2-3 +8 3-4 +8
rev limiter- 5500
WOT fuel- +1.5
tire size- 2532mm

I used a 3% squish factor on the tires to get that measurment and my GPS and the Edge are dead on.

Another thing I just noticed. My serial number In the Version Info is #7059 but on the Edge unit it is #7354. What is up with that?

What do you mean by "Power Up?" If you mean the part at the end where it reboots, then they did away with that I guess. Not a big deal, but it was an extra step in Lightning that would make sure that all the calibration and firmware stuff loaded properly before going out to the truck and finding a blank screen.

Dunno why the serial numbers don't match. Honestly, I don't think anyone's does.

As for Beta/Release... Edge makes the decisions as to what file you are able to download. They took the power away from the customer, mostly to keep them from having to guess which files to download. In most cases, this is just fine. However, if you wanted to go back to a previous cal or firmware for any reason, you're pretty much out of luck. Tech support CAN target your unit to download a specific file set, but that requires a phone call and explaining why you want to go back.

Anyway, there you are.
