Tuner for 4.2L V6?

I've seen all these good tuners that add 10 hp and 15 lbs of torque and increased gas mileage, etc. and I'm interested in getting one but all I see is 4.6 and 5.4's all over the page. What happened to their little brother?

Nope - not unless you can find one used. Check the classifieds.

You will still need to buy tunes for it is you do find a used unit.

For a V6, your choices are somewhat limited.

Dang....$700.....I would rather get a exhaust system or tonneau cover for that price. I don't need a name-brand one. Just something cheap and that will add power when I need it or tune for fuel economy.

So I visited Hypertech's website and they say the Hypertech Max Energy Power Programmer fits a '98 F-150 4.2L V6 VIN "2" (mine) But I cannot find a price or ordering page anywhere. Any help?

When it comes to tuning - you really don't want cheap; you want quality.

Yer in luck - there is an Xcal2 for sale in this site's classifieds ( did you look ?)

--> https://www.f150online.com/classifieds/search.cfm

Search for 'xcal' ...... it's ad # 29319

$200 - you will need to get it reprogrammed - you can initially buy one tune if you are on a budget, and add as many more as you wish later.

This will, in total be approx $300 - which was your budget.

Yeah, it's expensive... but I can't wait to get mine...

I'm going to try it out, and see how it works... if it does give me some more torque, then I'll keep it... if it don't then I'm going to return it and buy a Scangauge II with the X-Gauges...

If it's going to wind up being used as an addition to my gauge cluster rather than a performance increaser, then a Scangauge would be a much cheaper alternative compared to the Troyer Livewire.

IMHO - Stay away - not in the same league as an SCT custom tune.

And it will not be inexpensive either.
