Used Xcal2 serial number help...

So heres the deal. I bought a used Xcal2 off a member here and have been talking with Troyers about tunes and what not. I talked to Crystal every day for about a week on and off, and the last time I talked to her I finally started to get her some info and what not. Now....

...she said something about the serial number, and for the life of me I cant remember what it was. I though she said I needed to reset the serial number, or get a new one for it, or something like that, but that doesnt make sence to me. Said I can use some software off the SCT site...

So does anyone have an idea of what she might have said since I have crappy attention skills?
Just trying to maybe get an idea today and get it done before tomorrow so I can just call up tomorrow and get going with it. Maybe save another day of BSing with this thing instead of wasting tomorrow playing with it.

Thank in advance for any insight.

Hey.

Why do you always ask me the tough question? lol!

Ok - there should be a s/n sticker on the back - it's a loooong set of characters.

If not, you can either connect it to your truck (safe - yer not gonna flash anything), and scroll through to the device info screens where it will also report the s/n.

If you do not wanna hook it up to yer truck, download and install Liveload 3 v1.3.1 from here http://www.sctflash.com/software/liveload131.exe, on a Win XP SP2 pc, connect the Xcal2 via a standard A-B usb cable and launch the app - you'll need to do this to unlock it, and clear out any old tunes on the device anyway. While it's connected you can again go to the device info screen and pull up the s/n.

***WARNIN' *** Don't be clicky-happy in here! There IS an option to completely erase the device - *Don't* do that, or you will have just created a doorstop. All you wanna do is erase any tuning files, and Unlock the Xcal2. Tutorial is highly advisable; Liveload tutorial on the SCT site.

You need the s/n because MT locks the tuning to the device for intellectual property protection. The s/n should not need to be changed ( don't even know if it can).

While yer at it, check the firmware revision - it should be v1.14. If not, I can send you the file ( pm me an addy). The one posted is v1.15 - for 2007 trucks. Alternatively there may be a link to it on SCT's forums. This is updated via the LiveUpdate app available here: http://www.sctflash.com/software/liveload131.exe.

See SCT's site fer more info & stuff, lol.

Good luck.

Because you come up with the most entertaining answers

I have already done all that stuff to it, maybe thats what she was trying to tell me though and I just wasnt paying attention well enough to her:o
I guess I got a little dumbfounded and didnt get a chance to ask her before she went on to something else.

Have Liveload, LiveLink, and all the Xcall2 drivers dowloaded on my laptop. Cleared off the old tunes and unlocked it last week. Made sure to check the version too, has 1.14.

Had it hooked up to my truck the first day I got it too. I wasnt sure if it was going to be ok, but I did it anyway haha.

I was trying to do some datalogging, pretty much just play around with LiveLink, but I cant get it to work with Vista on my laptop
Ive been reading about ways around it on the SCT forums, but nothing is working for me.

Made sure to read up on the SCT site too, been doing my homework on it

Thanks!

Ok.

Yep - Livelink & Vista don't play nice. Perhaps after SP1 is released, lol.

(You did try running the app as Administrator, right?)

I just use a dedicated older XP laptop.

Good luck.

Ok, called TP and talked to Crystal again today, finally got stuff figured out and the sheets should be coming to my sometimes soon. God bless her for having the patience to put up with me.

I asked her about this and she said "you need to re-serialize the device"-exact words.

She said in LiveLoad I need to click on the "Set Serial Number" button. Well, did that and all I get is something that says "ERROR-Cannot reset the serial number once set."

So I dunno what thats all about. Im pretty confused I guess. Shes telling my to get a new serial number for it, but its not working. I even read on the SCT site that you cant change the serial number
I dont know whats wrong with the serial number it has now, why it cant be used. So I dont know what the #*&%$#. As far as Ive ever known a serial number on ANYTHING is a set number for that device only....

Called up SCT to and told them about my problems with Vista and he said he was going to email me some thing that I can download to make Vista and LiveLink jive. Said he sent it as we were talking on the phone...well that was 4 hours ago and I have never seen an email take that long, so I dont know whats up with that either.

Im about ready to run this thing over with my truck and say f it, Im getting flustered with it.

Patience.....

I'd just report back to Crystal exactly what you described here - it's a valid question. I personally see no reason the s/n can't be used as-is. I saw that reference on SCT's site about not being able to change it.

SCT? Small shop, a lot of traffic. Send/call - gentle reminder (get a name?).

An once you get what they send, PM me as I'd appreciate a copy lol!

Thanks, and good luck.

Patience isnt a strong point of mine
I will have to call her again tomorrow. Im either completley missing what she is telling me (which I can usually pick up on what people are saying and get it quick, so I find that hard to believe) or else shes telling me something wrong, which I also find hard to believe since she deals with this all the time.

I sorta kinda guess I can wait for SCT. Like I said, zero patience here. Its just that when someone says they did/will do something I expect it to be done/get done.

Ill make sure to get you that file

Only Monday and I want this week to be over already...
