some xcalII help...

im not the best at this but i was wondering if someone can help me understand the whole SPARK deal on the xcalII's.. what does it do and how should i adjust it... im not understanding the 0-2000,2000-4000, and 4000-8000 thing... and the other question i have is should i adjust my WOT Air/Fuel.. i didnt wana mess with it.. how will it help or hurt me.. i would like to get into the whole datalogging process but im tryin to figure out how it will work and what exactly it does for me.. but i love it so far... i just wish i could have gotten my shift points lower than 5600.. i just feel the power stops around 4800-5000 but oh well.. ill be workin all day tomarrow so i wont be able to call troyer but im always online so any help would def b appreciated here.. thanks alot. Hi.

<Boilerplate on>

For tech support, call TP directly.

<Boilerplate off>

First and foremost, don't adjust anything arbitrarily. If you received a custom-tuned Xcal2 from TP, it's already going to be configured optimally in the vast majority of cases. So playing around is most likely no gonna improve on anything; and very likley make it worse.

You need data in support of any required tuning changes. (I'm not talking about 'in a pinch' adjustments for a load of crap gas, where you can try reducing advance if detonation is evident).

FYI - the SPARK setting sets advance (or retard) in the selected rpm range. For safety, end-users are restricted from ADDING spark, only removing it. Just as they are restricted to only ADDING fuel, not removing it. This is to protect the vehicle from potential damage incurred by someone playing 'tuner expert' and summarily grenading their motors because of the 'more advance / leaner mixtures must be better' mentality, okay?

And - are you sure about those 5600 rpm shift points? Seems high - actually is too high for a stock motor.

Datalogging - you will have received a very detailed, comprehensive document explaining every facet of this - again, call for more info if you need more in-depth tech assistance - it's their document - they know it best.

Hope this helps.

just on a side note about the shift point RPM, a friend of mine has a 93 mustang he drags. his stock, and two aftermarket tachs were reading off according to the dyno comp. this might have somethign to do with it. also according to the police, my factory tach was off by 12 mph on my 97.

Dammit, no... I'm still sippin' down that tank of 87.. finally nudged under half a tank today, so it'll go quickly now. 30 gallon tank, I'm not a high mileage driver, so it takes awhile..

I'm sure lookin' forward to tryin' it out on 93 though!!

this just reminded me of this:When a man attempted to siphon gasoline from a motor home parked on a Seattle street, he got much more than he bargained for. Police arrived at the scene to find a very sick man curled up next to a motor home near spilled sewage. A police spokesman said that the man admitted to trying to steal gasoline and plugged his siphon hose into the motor home's sewage tank by mistake The owner of the vehicle declined to press charges, saying that it was the best laugh he'd ever had.

also mgd, when loading a new tune, it asks two questions, one about the options or something and i hit cancel, then another about something else like keeping the ________? am i supposed to hit select or cancel on the second one? you know what im talking about?

LOL! Man he prolly died later from the e.coli...

The Q - yeah - the first one is asking if you want to change any custom options/settings ( like removing spark, adding fuel, changing tire circumference, etc) - anything that's been enabled by TP for the end-user to modify.

The second one is, if you had previously made such modifications, do you want to apply these to the tune you are about to load? So, if you didn't make any changes you can click through both of those.
