Whats with all the hype?

I've never owned a programmer before and I'm looking to buy one for my new truck. I'm curious, whats with all the hype I see everyone talking about the Edge. Whats so great about it compared to all of the other ones out there that you can buy?

People like the gauges and the tuning is pretty good for a canned tune on a stock truck.
If you plan to do some mods give Mike Troyer a call for a custom tune for less than the Edge.

Put it this way? Once you get a tuner, whether it's a Edge or Troyer, you'll wonder how you ever lived without one! I personally love my Edge. I love all the settings it has and for a "canned" tuner, I think it does quite well!

This is the first tuner I have had in my life and I went with Troyers custom tunes and it is a remarkable difference ! I personally have a heavy foot on the gas pedal so I like the performance very much.

The performance is total night and day difference with the Edge in all throttle positions. The Edge will have a better resale value because it is not for one F150. But if you want every bit of performance possible go with a Troyer tune or if you plan on moding the motor.

Simple. Get one and see for yourself. I had an Edge and ended up switching to a custom tuned Xcal2 from www.VMPTuning.com and I would never go back to the Edge.

. . or VMP, Bama, or Jusnes. Troyer isn't the only one who makes custom tuning for these trucks.

Once you have a tuner, you'll never go back. I went with Troyer and the XCAL2. Very happy with the performance. Truck was an absolute dog prior to tuning......

I've had my xcal II with Troyer tunes for less than 2 weeks and I've got to say the shifting and acceleration are drastically improved. The adaptive strategy is probably still learrning (only on second tank of gas) so I notice a few weird throttle responses at times but you will love having a tuner

night and day difference

Anybody want to chime in on turning on/off the overdrive when driving in the mountains? With the tune being 87 performance the throttle response was slow climbing out of a turn until I gave a little more and than it would go WOT...again may be the "adaptive learning"

Hype about the Edge?? All I ever read is people complaining about how big of a POS it is Couldnt pay me to run one of those things on my truck.

People really seem to like them for the gauges and 0-60, 1/4, etc though.

thanks for all the input, I have one more quick question. Does having a programmer void factory warranty at all? Not that I really care just curious.

As you may have suspected, that's a very common question. Which means it's probably been asked & answered about a million times LOL!

You can use the excellent Search feature ( and pi$$ off PSS-Mag at the same time, hehe) to find responses to those types of frequent queries - or pretty much anything else....

Here's just a couple:

Love my edge!

I have a new edge evo in my 2007 XLT screw 5.4. I am very pleased with it! I have only ran in Lvl 2 up until today, I filled her up with 93 octane and set the edge to Lvl 3, all I can say is WOW! I had no idea this truck could run this well!! I am only running the canned tunes, no customs and it runs great! I will probably run some minor custom settings this Sat. as I will have to switch back to Lvl 2 to tow, andI have a full tank of 93. I will post some results on Sun. on the EDGE EVO

Custom tuning is the way to go IMO. I’ve been using TP’s custom tunes in my 04 since 12-03-04 and have never had a problem; totally trouble free & its da’bomb

Hey Bartak1! Haven't seen you since I was hanging out in the audio sub-forums. Now that my system is done, I'm ready for other mods.

FWIW, I wasn't real crazy about the idea of screwing around with my PCM either, especially after reading all of the posts with Edge problems. But I tried to keep in mind that we're probably going to see more negative thread topics than positive, just because it's our nature to bitch rather than to praise. So, I bought one last week and I can honestly say that it's like driving a new truck. I'm sure lots of tuners could have made the same difference, but the gauges really are the s**t

I should mention that I am having an issue when I try to customize a Standard Shift Point, but Edge's support is pretty good so far and they're working on a fix. No regrets as of yet.
