New F150 Screw owner!

Just sold my 97 cobra and picked up a 2003 5.4L F150 Lariat 4door short bed. Had it about 3 days and WOW i really love this truck. It killed me selling my cobra but now i almost dont miss it :o .

I still have a 3year/36,000 mile warranty. I wanted to ask what were some things i could do for more pickup and go speed. Without void a warranty( i know they can be different and some allow more then others). But i wouldnt mind some general ideas i can look into.

Im pretty sure a CAI will not void it but other then that im lost. So any ideas thrown my way will be much appreciated.

For the appearance im looking at a billet-grill,new wheels and tires,MP3 player(god i miss that),sub from my cobra and tint the front 2 doors and strip the windshield.

Thanks for any help or ideas. You should see alot of me since im not longer on the cobra forums i have a new home

You are not on your own!
I just traded a 2003 F250 CC 4X4 Lariat diesel with 35's, programmer, 4"exhaust and cold air kit for an 03 F150 Screw with a 5.4 and 33" BFG's on custom wheels. I have a second kid on the way and just didnt want to pay for the F250. It WAS my baby. I miss the power, but it was a bear to drive daily and expensive to maintain. I needed something to tow my 91 Mustang with and the Screw should do it just fine. I got a good deal on it, but it has 80,000 miles. The previous owner had 1 coil pack replaced and all spark plugs changed less than 2,000 miles before he traded it. My dad has an 03 Heritage F150 (special paint package) with a 5.4 and 3.55's. He tows a 7,000 5th wheel camper with it. We added a MAC CAI and otherwise it is stock. The CAI was worth it according to him. He felt a small SOTP improvement and it sounds awesome. Mine has a Flowmaster 3" catback, but otherwise stock. It sounds good. I will add a programmer in the future. I hear the 5.4 wakes up quite a bit with one.

Welcome,I am not sure on the warranty part but here is the best 3 on these trucks. The mod that will get you the most power for the money will be a tuner.Next on the list should either be CAI intake or exhaust doesn't matter which. With the recent price increase of edge programmers it really isn't worth it.If i was you i would go with a custom tuned Xcal2 from Troyer Performance.
Great customer service there The intake that is most popular here is the AF1 also sold by Troyer.Exhaust kinda depends on what you want?True duels, catback, muffler swap, headers????Also you get a discount from Troyer by being a member of hereI have pics of the AF1 and my exhaust set up that is working good on my truck, click the camera!Maybe some others will chime in to help that can explain better.

welcome clnstyles, a tuner-intake combo from the folks at Troyer is a good performance option for the $$, since your coming off a cobra. More air from the intake + tuner can be adjusted for more fuel = more power then just a tuner alone. Just my .02 here... good luck on your choice and with your new truck!

I have an 03 lariat SCREW myself. Just picked it up in Febuary. I love this truck. I recommend a CAI and a programmer. I picked up a used K&N air intake ($114) and an EDGE EVO ($184) on EBAY, I won the EDGE on Monday and I'm anxiously waiting arrival . The nice part about both these mods is that it is extremely easy to return both back to stock before you go in for warrenty work, if needed. Neither one should void your warrenty but it's really all up to the dealers descretion, so why take the chance. Put something on that is easy to take off.

You can go with an XCAL2 if you want to spend that money (which I would have done if I had the money), but for an out of the box programmer that you could find at a good price if you don't mind used, you can save some $$$ for other mods.

Hi clnstyles,

Well, since you are here in this section you must be thinking about tuning - and what will get you the best results by far is our Troyer Performance custom tuning - that is what most people here do.

The tuning will not void your warranty, we do not do anything to the powertrain that will damage it - we have specialized in performance tuning & modifying F-150's longer than anyone else, over 15 years now, so we have tuned literally thousands & thousands of them.Proper tuning is the single best bang-for-the-buck performance enhancement you can make, and you can easily return it back to stock at any time & your dealer will not know.

We provide you with a set of 3 different custom tunes set up for your individual wants & needs, so we can do pure performance tunes, towing-compatible tunes, tunes for different levels of octane, etc., and we will give you a thorough consultation to help you select your tunes when you call us.

The top 3 best bang for the buck mods are tuning, intake, and then exhaust - however, you do have to be very careful what parts you use. I do not recommend buying anything used, as you do not have any warranty or any support on it - and you never know if you are going to get stiffed especially on a used tuner, as if the previous owner does not return the vehicle back to stock, then the tuner cannot be used again without sending it back to the manufacturer and paying a hefty fee.

Besides, with our F-150 Online discounts that we provide to registered members of this web site, you can usually afford to go with the best parts and get the best results - you'd be surprised how much of a difference you will get with say, our tuning & intake combo deal - a lot of people have gone that route.

At any rate, this is just some brief info & I hope that helps.

Thanks for your post & best of luck with your truck!
