Edge tire seeting question????

My buddy is bored so he decided to install my edge for me. He is in the process of changing the tires size. He says that he read somewhere to change a little at a time instead of drastically. Is this true?? If so he said it is setup for 2398mm and I have close to 2750mm. What should he set for increments? or should he just set it at 2750mm right off the bat. Thanks

Never heard that one. I just set mine for what it is and go. Be sure and change the gears if the default is not what you have in the truck.

He said page 16 of the manual has the warning about drastic change in tire size. Ive read a lot of old and new posts and I havent seen anyone having a problem. I'll just tell him to change it to what I have.

Yeah just change it no biggie, like bluejay432000 make sure the gears are set right. Theres a thread going around you can look up your truck code and find out what it is if needed.

Yea I had him just change it to my current tire size. The door code ends in a 9 so it looks like I have 3.73s. The guy who sold it to me thought all FX4s came with 4.10s. I wish he would have been right. Oh well Thanks

Grin...4:10s would be nice! I actually took my truck to have the oil changed and I asked my dealer what rear end gear size and said 3:53 or what ever is under the 3:73s. After researching here I seen there were actually 3:73 from reading the door code and called them up and asked how they came up with the size they did. They said they had a chart on the computer and just read it from there. Anyhow I stuck with what my door code said.

Speedo Correction

Setup of this parameter is definetly trial-and-error.

The Edge manual gives a base line number for circumference of a tire that is fully inflated and does not take in the account of the "squish" factor.

It is best to measure your rear tire by marking it with tape or a marker and transfer the mark to the pavement. Have someone observe the mark on the tire as you drive slowly until the tire has made "one" revolution. Now, measure the distance between the two marks that are on the pavement and this will give you your true circumference of your tire as it is on the truck. Metric tape measure works best or multiply by 25.4 to get the milimeter measurement required to load into the Edge programmer. Don't forget to punch in the correct axle ratio your truck has when programming each time.

Example: My 02 Screw has BFGoodrich LT285/70R17 and 3.55 gears. Circumference, when measured, came out to 2520mm. Not even close to what is stated in Edge manual. Programmed the Edge with these numbers and test drove on a highway with mile markers to check. Number was to low as odometer was clocking more than actual driven. Programmed again with higher number 0f 2552 to trick PCM that tires are larger so odometer will clock slower. Now, for every 10 miles driven, odometer clocks an extra .1 tenth of a mile. Programmed again with lower number of 2548 and on recent trip on RT80 showed that my odometer was only off by .1 tenth of a mile after 100 miles driven.

That's as close to as perfect I think I will get unless I want to be really **** and reprogram the Edge with a number of 2547 but cargo weight and other factors will effect this number in the end.

So, as you can see, this "gray" area is by all means....trial-and-error in order to get it right!

I read the edge manual front to back about 3 times when i installed mine. i dont remember anything about increments??? Just load it and go. If you are ever unsure of anything, call their tech department, everytime i called (i called a lot) They were quick to answer all of my questions.

Anyhow, tell you what i did, i entered my measurements from the edge manual i think it was 2951mm and saved it with gear raion 4.56. The next time i played with it, i loaded the previous options and guess what... the edge moved my measurements to 2953mm, go figure. It does this everytime i try to correct it, i called tech and they said thats just how it is. no big deal its only off by a couple of mm's, I still love my edge.
