Performance?

I have a 2004 5.4 fx4 with a 2" leveling kit running 35"s. I want to get a chip that will make my performance alot better. When stopped at a stop street, on take off it is very slow. I want a little more power to get my 35's up and going quicker. Anybody have any suggestions on which brand and what chip I should choose to go with. The help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

i would regear, with 35" i recomend 4.56 ring and pinion. this will get back all that lost power from those big tires. your city MPG will emprove also. good luck

On a cheaper note i would say go with either an edge or a Xcal2. Either ones have there drawbacks but both are good for more power.

I have the SuperChips 1714 (only works with 2004) and it has greatly improved my acceleration along with throttle response. I am sure the others are better but I got a good deal on mine from the classifieds here and is great for my use. By the way I have 295/70/17 Nitto Terra Grapplers on mine; my neighbor has stock tires on his and mine has much better acceleration than his.

Ditto. Even though it is kinda spendy, IMO regearing is the biggest bang for the buck when it comes to these trucks.

I highly recommend the 4.56's also, that will bring you back a little deeper than stock and you'll love the acceleration. You could go with 4.10's too, that would bring you pretty close to stock. 4.56's don't cost anymore than 4.10s though, so it really wouldn't be a concern.

If your not looking to spend that much definately give the folks at Troyer performance a call. They will hook you up.

HI jesse101,

I have already responded to this is another thread you posted asking the same thing..

While ideally I would like to see a set of 4.56's there for those 35" tires, in most cases just our custom tuning makes most owner with 35's happy enough that they do not need to go out and spend the huge $$$ to regear their trucks.

This is one of my pet peeves, I wish the people who sold & installed big tires advised their customers as to the actual effect on performance, because it's a "double-whammy" - meaning, you lose torque multiplication due to the tire being taler - and then because the tire is also heavier, you actually put less power to the ground, meaning your driveline losses go up.

At any rate, I usually recommend tuning first, as you will need that anyone to correct the speedometer even if you do install gears - and usually the tuning is enough for most people, and then at least they can have much better performance while they save their pennies to re-gear the truck!

I hope that info helps, & our number is just below to call us.
