I need advice fast! Bad chip

Okay I'm not the type to expect to be spoon fead with info, but i need some help fast.

I'm no expert on this truck stuff, It is my dads 1999 F150

Right now he said he has a Jet chip in that was put in when he got it. But latley I have been driving it and it dosent seem to go into gear properly. And when I floor it the RPMS go all the way up and thats just going at 45mph.

I went to the Freeway to see what was up and the only way to get the gears to go in properly I had to speed up, slow down wait for the gear to switch then speed up again, slow down, speed up etc.

And after I could smell some burning under the hood. I made some calls to some shops and they said the Tranny will most likely go out soon if I don't take the chip out or replace it. And lately the Check engine light has been coming on and off while driving.

So I was wondering what kind of Chip should my dad should go with? He was also thinking about an Supercharger too. So I have no idea what he should go about doing.

once again I have no clue about this problem at all and what I should do, he is currently out of town working in New Orleans, so I have to go get all this done on my own.

Theres not really a Budget, But looking to spend around $400-$500

That sounds like a tranny problem to me.I had the same thing happen to a diff truck and most likely its the bands slipping.Pull the pan and change the fluid ASAP.You may want to think about draining the Torque Converter also. When you do cheack for material in the pan and that should give you an idea. You may want to post in the tranny section for advise on this.
Oh do you still have all gears?also that burning you smell is your bands slipping, not cool!!!!

Thanks for the reply, yeah I'll just repost this in the tranny section then.

He still want to take the chip out though or add Supercharger

Any good brands to go with?

Well if he adds a supercharger some of them include a new programmer with the kit i think. If he goes supercharged it needs custom tuning and no off the shelf tuner will work for that.If he wants to just upgrade from the Jet then i would invest in a Troyer Tuned Xcal2. www.troyerperformance.com
I think he will be investing in a tranny first though

Transmission repair/replacement is gonna blow that budget to hell. Best get it taken care of soon or you'll be biking it.

First things, first.

Yeah I will try and get it to some kind of High performance shop today or tomorrow and see exactly what is up. I hope it's not the tranny though.

Try some help in the tranny section and in the mean time DO NOT down shift it and make it slip until its figured out
Good Luck

Hey one more thing to add.I am not familiar with the jet chip.Is there any way you can take it out or return your truck to stock with it.If you return it to stock and it still does it you can rule rule the chip out as not the problem.

It's misfiring - That's the only way you can get an engine light to blink at yuh..That's why it blinks - so you can isolate an ignition/fuel prob - that's the default..

The tranny's confused ...

Yeah - if he reboots it will act right for a short time I bet - it resets the trans tables. With misfire , you know the prob comes right back after awhile..

The Misfire has to be delt with first..

It would help if I new what motor and trans he has.

I gottuh go - beback in a couple hours..

RELL,to clarify see what engine and tranny the truck has. Also when you say the RPMs go up is it still accelerating fine or is it slipping?Head to auto zone and have them get the codes out of it>Make sure ya write them down and post them here. After you find this out jbrew will prob help you.
