5.4L FFV tuning

Does the tuning for the FFV 5.4L differ from the tuning for the standard 5.4L? Are the same gains possible? Do you lose the FFV capability?

Yep, the big gains are possible Check out Troyer Performance and look into what Mike can do for you, you won't be disappointed with his exclusive custom tuning for F150’s, it’s the way to go IMO

if you use a performance tune I do believe you can't use the E-85. Talk to troyer performance.. he may have a performance tune for E-85 but I bet the fuel milage will be REALLY bad.

My truck has the 5.4 FFV engine and I have Mike's tunes installed. It runs just fine, but I only run straight gasoline, E-85 is not available around here yet. Even if it was, I would not use it. Why would you use a fuel that costs more and gets worse mileage.

i dont think E85 is worth it either... because of the gas mileage... but i have never seen where it is higher than regular unleaded

Around N.E. Ohio it is because it so rare and hard to find. I have to go 50 miles out of way down to Medina County to get it. When I did find it, reg gas was 2.29 and the E-85 was 2.89, now reg is 3.49 and who knows what E-85 is right now.

E-85 is getting pretty common around here. It is about $.50 cheaper than regular unleaded. I still haven't tried it yet though. Wanted to break the engine in a little more yet before running the e-85, especially with the Edge.

Hi hwm3,

Please forgive me not getting back to you sooner - we are doing so many tunes that I am doing everything to free up more time to get tunes done quicker for everyone, so that means less time spent here, unfortunately!

The Flex Fuel vehicles are no problem at all for us to tune, we have already tuned *many* of them - and in this case, we are usually talking about the flex fuel option Ford offers in the 2006 & newer 5.4 3V engine F-150's.

We can tune them and you can STILL use E-85, that is NOT a problem.

The only thing that E-85 does pose a problem with is your fuel mileage - it WILL drop, and by an average of about 30%. Now yes, E-85 is generally a cheaper fuel, but by the time you actually calculate the cost per gallon versus the fuel mileage, and compare that to the difference you get by running "normal" pump gasoline and pay it's price, you usually still come out ahead running normal pump gasoline.

However, that is the vehicle owner's choice - when we tune them, you can STILL use E-85 if it is a flex fuel vehicle from the factory, no problem!

Yes, there are a couple of differences in how we tune a flex fuel 5.4 3V compared to a non-flex fuel 5.4 3V or 5.4 2V - but that is primarily just the matter of the flex fuel 5.4 3V's having a separate fuel delivery section for the use of E-85 that we also have to tune, it's not a big deal.

SO the bottom line is, if you have a 5.4 3V F-150 that is flex fuel from the factory, you can still enjoy our tuning and use either normal pump gasoline or E-85, no problem!

Please feel free to give us a call if you would like to go over this in more detail, OK?

Thanks, & talk to you soon!

Just curious if this is the case with a canned tune such as the superchips flashpaq 1815?
