does it help gas mileage?
does it help gas mileage?
ok so if i get my truck lifted 6" w/ 37" tires, i know that'll kill my mileage. sooo does a programmer chip REALLY help improve mileage, or is that a gear swap ? what about the speedo?
Tires will throw off your speedo. Gears will throw off your speedo even more. You're gonna need to do gears and a programmer. And a programmer really will help your mileage, if you can keep your foot out of it...
HI f150mudder01,
Well, the first thing to do is to get it tuned, so that the truck will have significantly more power and have the speedometer, odometer and the transmission shift points corrected, as all of that will be thrown off by installing tires that tall.
Then from there, while I do prefer to see a gear ratio change done as well, it's up to you to decide if your performance & mileage are good enough as they are at that point, or if you feel you also need to do the gear ratio change.
For me, I'd want to do our custom tuning right away, and then drive it a little while with everything corrected and the additional power, and then I'd probably go ahead and do the gear ratio change as well - but you'd be surprised at how many people run those tall tires and just have us do our Troyer Performance custom tuning for them to gain power and fix everything so the truck drives correctly - power and fuel mileage will pick up like that, though ideally, it would be nice to do the gears as well.
And once you have our tuning, if you do decide to do the gear ratio change, you can easily enter than it our tuner to correct your speedo, odo & transmission shift points (in the automatics) once again for the gear ratio change.
Please feel free to call us to go over any of this in more detail, OK?
Thanks!
