Chalk me up for Edge problems...

Installed my Edge, instantly noticed a difference. Loved it. Drove around town for a few days. Then as described in another post, while on level 2 with my cruise set around 67 on the highway I got the tranny shudder. Quickly went away once I gave it gas to increase speed.

Called edge they said download the two latest (beta) versions. Downloaded those reinstalled the Edge and not the unit turns off and on randomly while driving. Ensured the connections were made securely and that no prongs, contacts, etc were bent.

It has no rhyme or reason. Sometime when I start it up the Edge doesn't power up. Sometime it will just shut off while I'm going down the road. Or sometimes it will shut off while I'm adjusting settings. Very aggravating, since I was so pleased until I had the shudder.

Called edge, they said if it's not the connections then its my trucks voltage. I LOL'd at that. Why would my voltage go wacky over the course of a couple hours? Drove the truck around and it wouldn't go away. My reading on the edge for voltage was 14.2. I don't get it.

The only thing that was done to my truck in between was that it went to the dealer to have a key programmed. I made sure the truck was returned to stock before this.

Edge told me they'd send a new unit or should I go back to autoanything.com?

Have you had to do this? Will they send one right away. I'm going on a trip next Friday and will be towing a trailer. I'd like to have my Edge for that (with the problem straigthened out).

Put mine in last night. Drove about 10 miles on lvl2 and tonight filed up with 93 and went to lvl3. I never got on the highway with lvl2. I did not update mine before install. I have read a couple of probs after an update so I wanted to see what would happen out of the box. No probs so far but I have a long trip this weekend. I am very concerned about the shudder prob, I wish I read this earlier. So far I hit the highway hard tonight with lvl3 and giddy up!!!!! It was great but I never stayed at a cruising speed. Tommorrow Im going to try cruise control at 65 and see what happens. I have a 3/4 tank full of 93 so I will be on lvl3. As soon as its gone Im goin to lvl2 and see what happens. By the way, lvl2 great, lvl3 on highway kicks ***! Half tank Im going +1.5 on timing for 93 (going by the manual). Cant wait to see what happens! One last thing, thanks to all who helped alot of us get the edge at 318 last week (autoanything) before the increase, you guys rock!!!

As far as the shudder problem some of you are having. The computer needs to "learn" a little. When I first updated and installed the edge I also had the "shudder". After a few driving cycles it went away.

At least, it looks like they are being helpful. Hope all works out with the new unit they are sending you versus the one you got the first time.

I got my edge yesterday and tried plugin it in after reading the manual front to back and back to front. I got the hex code and everything was good untill I tried to load lvl2. CHECKSUM ERROR RXCM5A6 so I call edge and the tech tells me to download the newest updates. So i did that last night and everything was sucessful but it was 11:00 so i waited untill today to try loading lvl2 again. Today i got home from work and hooked up the edge and tried loading lvl2...Again CHECKSUM FAILED RXCM5A6. So i go to hook the edge up to my computer and the puter says the edge is not in stock form go out to the truck and plug it in and hit enter to return to stock. I plug it in my truck and push enter and the edge tells me. THIS PROGRAMMER IS LOCKED TO ANOTHER VEHICLE. So i go to test drive my truck and holy hell I have a nastruck. this thing is quick. Im calling edge tomorrow, they already closed today. I cant wait to sit on hold for 20 minutes . So should i drive my truck to work tomorrow or what? 110 mile round trip. What would you do?....MGD? Bluejay? HELP please

Webmaster, why isn't this a sticky?

Ftruck, if you can avoid it don't drive it until you have figured out what you screwed up with Edge tech support. Becuase there was an error code you have no idea what kind of program was written, it could deadly for your engine. Yeah, it takes around twenty minutes on the phone, but Edge's support is very helpful, have all your questions and chit together, and they should walk you through any process's to be performed step by step, hopefully they can return the Edge to a stockwriter, and you wont need a reflash from the delear.

Hi, Ftruck05.

Well, if it were me, I would avoid driving it and find some other way to get to work. And let Edge support help you.

But since you may not have that option, you are in a bit of a pickle. Still, if the truck is running, it will probably keep doing so - no CEL/codes, right?

Still a risk as Flareside indicated... sorry I can't be more helpful; I'm not an Edge owner . Perhaps Blujay can offer some better insight here.

Good luck

Cheers
Bubba

Thats a new one, but I doubt driving it will cause any damage. Are you sure you followed the instructions on plugging it in with the key on? Sorry i could not be of more assistance.

Checksum error indicates data corruption, either in the downloaded updates or in the programming of the PCM. In either case you really, really need to call Edge and let them work with you to figure this out.
