Power Estimate

I am going to be ordering an AF1 intake, underdrive pulleys and custom tune from Troyers in about a week, and was wondering if any one had a similar combo that could give me an estimate of the power that would be put down with these mods.
My truck is an '04 with the 5.4 2wd Supercab with custom dual exhaust out the side. Thanks guys

openclasspro, like i said, not able to dyno so it really doesnt matter what kind of dyno, and for the exhaust, it is straight piped

Hi 04,

Let me try to help you here............

First, actually it *does" matter what kind of dyno - quite a bit, as they vary quite a bit in their results. Phil has a lot of experience in this area, and that is why he asked, he was jsut trying tpo be helpful based on his experience - just FYI.

Next - 300 HP stock at the flywheel is going to give you roughly 202 to maybe 207 at the rear wheels on an accurate chassis dyno like our 224 lxC.

These vehicles vary, fuel quality is a really big factor - but on a dyno like ours, I would guess that an otherwise healthy truck like yours with those mods should dyno somewhere in the 250-260 RWHP range assuming you are using top quality fuel and the truck has good O2 sensors, and all maintenance up to snuff - now you may hit as much as 275, but I'd guess somewhere in the neighborhood of 250 to 260, just as a rough guess, which is going to be quite an improvement over stock numbers of 202-207 RWHP!

The nice thing is that the combination of our tuning and the Air Force One intake means you are going to see almost as large a power gain at 2000-3000 rpm @ WOT as you will see at the peak, and that really helps these trucks accelerate from about 2000 rpm on up.

I hope that info helps you a bit, and is what you were looking for - and please remember, this is only as estimate - you could be a bit higher or lower depending on vehicle condition, mileage and fuel quality.

Good luck, & thanks for your post!

So my next question is this. I am looking to spend about $1000 on performance parts in the next few days. What would be a good combination to start with.
Truck info:
04 scab 2wd, 5.4, straight pipes.
thanks

Hi 04,

Well, the hot tip is to go in the order of best bang for the buck, and you're pretty much on track with your original thoughts, I'd say, so you've done a good job on your homework.

Since you already have an exhaust setup, I would say go right down the bang for the buck list, so next up would be to do our tuning, the 3.5" AF1 intake kit, and then the set of underdrive pulleys - just what you were looking at before, as you pretty much had it nailed in terms of the basic order of bang for the buck.

The order of bang for the back is basically first, our custom tuning, then next, the AF1 intake kit, and then a good cat-back exhaust setup, preferably Magnaflow as they get eh best results in terms of not just peak HP, but also the ever-important part-throttle torque. Yes, a set of underdrive pulleys costs less, but adding the exhaust to our tuning and the AF1 intake ends up making all 3 of *those* mods (our tuning, intake and exhaust) work better together as a system, so we say the order is our tuning, the AF1 intake, the exhaust, and then on to things like the underdrive pulleys, electric fans, and then it's on to headers - and for that, go long tube rather than shorty, as the power gains are much better.

So right now, you are already on truck with what you originally wanted to do with our tuning, intake and the underdrives, and at that point, you are going to have a very enjoyable truck that runs far better than it does right now.

I hope that helps you, & give us a call if you need any other details, etc.

Have fun!

Depending on how numb you butt is also a big factor in how it feels when you drive it. I have intake, pullies, exhaust, tuner, E-Fans, and 4.10 gears with 28.4" tires... I installed every mod individually and honestly... the best bang for the buck for me was the tuner and gears.

Like I said, my butt is very "numb" though. But even though I couldn't feel the difference with every single mod done individually.. the truck is a completly different animal that it was when I first got it... I say animal because shutting down modified Hemi trucks at the track is done without breaking a sweat.

Intake, tuner and pullies will make a huge difference.. The way the turck shifts and the WOT performance is great compared to stock.

Go with Troyer and you won't be sorry.

I have 2005 F150 Supercrew with 3.5 Airforce One, True duals, 35's, and xcal2 with mikes tunes. I was down there earlier this month and got hooked up on the dyno. I found my dyno sheets from my first dyno day. Stock which pulled about 209 hp, and 247 torque, and that was stock except for the duals. After mikes tunes my truck hit 242hp and 296 torque without the Airforce One and on stock tires. Now with 35's and mikes tuning I'm around 250hp (249.something) and 305 torque, very impressive gains from Mike's tuning, so even with the 35's he got me some more power. I'm sure if I go back to the stock tires it would jump at least 10-15hp. I'm very impressed with Mikes ability to tune these vehicles. All my buddies told me with the 35's I will lose hp and torque, but not with Mike's tuning. Thanks Mike for all the work on my truck, Plugs and all.
Total HP Gains from stock= 41hp on 35's
Total Torque from stock=58 on 35's

Hi.

Very nice, clean looking truck .

That thing is gonna boogie with all those additions - are you planning on doing the work yourself?

Good luck!

Cheers

I got prety much exactly what you are looking at and noticed a huge difference. Waiting to dyno till I get my livewire back.

I did the pullies first and was supprised to see a semi large difference in throttle responsiveness. Then I put on my AF1 3.5 and Tune and the truck pulls much stronger after 2k RPM. Before 2 I can tell if it seems weaker or if it just pulls soo much harder that high up that it feels weaker. I love this setup.
