Looking for a mild tune

I'm looking to tune my truck, but I don't need a hot rod. I'm just looking for something to work with my banks exhaust and intake, give me a little more efficiency, and some passing power. I'm leaning towards the Edge. Any thoughts?

I'd say go with the Edge. I have one on level 3 and it works great with my Banks exhaust and S&B intake. You can leave it on level 1 if you want. Also, you don't have to wait 2 months to get it. Just my opinion.

What kind of mileage do you get with your setup?

Just out of curiousity, why not go with the Banks tuner to complete the package?

Haven't heard anything about it. Didn't know they tuned gas engines. My intake is S&B, but I think I'm going to scrap it and go with something else.

Hi - can you tell me why you're considering the intake change?

The S&B ( the newest model at least ) appears to be "A/F=friendly". If you go with certain other ones, that may no longer be the case, and you may have issues running a tuner... something to consider.

Cheers
Bubba

I think my intake is an older model with the cone shaped filter and tube running to the factory air box. It looks different from some of the other S&B's I've seen on here. When I first installed it I noticed a 1-2 mpg increase on my display, but shortly after it returned to economy before installation. I'm thinking I need a tuner to get the most out of it. When I installed my Banks exhaust my fuel economy dropped even more???

I am getting around 13- 15 mpg's. split between town and highway.
FYI Banks has the entire line of performance products for our trucks. From exhaust to intake to headers to blower. Probably can get better numbers(price and HP) elsewhere however.

Hi mt b8,

Well, the first thing you need to realize is that things have changed dramatically in the past couple of model years, especially on these trucks - the days are gone when you can just slap on any intake kit, for example, as any intake kit that actually adds real power is going to lean out the engine - with ONE exception, and that is the 3.0" version of the Air Force One, which we took the better part of 2 years working on (and no, we don't own that company, we just tried to help them). With virtually any intake kit other than the 3.0" version of the Air Force One, you are going to need *custom* tuning, not just some off the shelf device, to correct the lean conditions that happens on all of the 2004 & newer trucks, especially the 5.4's - so that is a very important point to consider.

And in terms of getting a "mild" tune - that is up to you. The tunes we provide are first of all, a set of 3 different tunes that are made for each individual vehicle owner's needs & desires, so they can be for any level of octane, towing, performance, mild to wild - whatever fits your needs.

The main thing is to get the A/F ratios right when you change intake kits, and for that, I recommend that you stick with the intake kits that we recommend, as we have tested every kit on the market for these trucks and we know which ones actually do the best job, and the corrections needed for them to deliver safe A/F ratios so the truck runs right immediately.

Please understand this is not meant as a sales pitch, but rather to inform you and let you know that you need to approach tuning & intake kit changes especially with care - and at the risk of sounding like a sales tool (), that the reality is you are much better off with our Troyer Performance custom tuning as nobody else has near the experience & expertise tuning these vehicles that we do - we have specialized in this platform for over 15 years, and have tuned thousands upon thousands of them one by one, with our custom tunes. The power & performance gains we get are significantly larger with any type of tune we do compared to any off the shelf tuner, and do not negatively impact your vehicle at all - the vehicle is still nice & smooth, and completely reliable.

At any rate this is just some quick brief info for you - I hope it helps, & please feel free to give us a call at our number listed below if you'd like to go over any of this in more detail, OK?

Thanks for your post, & best of luck whatever you decide!
