Just installed my Edge - question regarding spark plug reading

Hey guys,

I just installed my Edge tonight on level 2.

I went through with level 2 installation and chose advance timing 1 degree because I have 89 octane in the truck.

When I was done I turned the truck on and the Spark Plug alert came on immediately reading 16,382 and flashing. I turned the truck off, went through the procedure of running regular level 2 with no advance and it still goes off. It only goes off when I start the truck up for a few seconds. Then at idle if I rev it or start driving nothing happens.

What is this reading? If I check the spark plug alert section it has an alert of "60". So what is this 16,000? Is that a false reading? Also when i did change the timing i hit the up button for advance; i just want to make sure i didn't want to hit the down button instead.

Thanks,

Jeremy

Have both of you updated to the latest version of software for your Edge? Try that and see if you still have issues.

I downloaded all the updates before I ever installed it. I also noticed when I advanced the timing to either 1 or .5 it idled funny so I just put it back to stock level 2 and said screw it. If it flashes and then goes away so what. I ended up finding some other posts where people had similiar problems so I guess it's normal.

I'll call tech support on Monday and see if there is anything they can do.

This happened to me also. The only thing I changed was my tire size though. After programming, the first two times I started it I got the Spark Alert flashing with the 16000 something flashing, but it stopped and went to the main display. The third time I started up there was no alert at all, just straight to the main display. Apart from that there were no other issues.

Mine does the same thing on L2 if I put in any spark advance. I turned the alert off, and run std L2 except for tire size. The default tire size does not match my truck stock tires. I would like to know what is causing this.

My 04 does this too. I tried the updates and it got worse. Tried setting the parameters at both high and low extremes and still did it. Called Edge and after being on hold forever some guy tells me that feature is only for super charged engines and said I can turn off that alert and still leave the others on. Both statements are BS!!!! From the tone of his voice, I got the feeling he was just blowing me off. I ended up turning off all my alerts because it was annoying which means I got less than what I paid for as I wanted the temperature alerts for towing.
I like my Edge and the useable features but from my experiance if you have a problem your screwed. No service after the sale!
If you do better with their tech support let me know so I can fix it and turn my alerts back on! Thanks

FYI............................................... ....
The OBDII port has power BEFORE you start the engine. Therefore the Edge spark alert will alert BECAUSE the engine has not started......NO SPARK!
Spark alert is related to timing;I have not not gotten a sensible explanation from Edge tech support Just turn it off.

Dunno if that argument holds - by the same reasoning, there is also no ECT, no oil pressure, & pretty much nothing else active that you would/could set an alert on either, so why does it only alert on no-spark? Help me out here.

I'm pretty sure you could quickly test that hypothesis - set an alert on a normal value & restart the truck....

Odd the alerts are an all-or-nothing switch ... wonder if they can programmatically change that behaviour - you guys should petition them on that ....

I think the edge is trying to tell you something. Otherwise everyone else running an edge in there F150 would have the same thing going on.

lol Well, if you read above many people are having this issue. I think the others who aren't probably just have there alerts off.

I've driven with it for a few days now. Sometimes this goes off when I start it, sometimes it doesn't. Weird. If it sits for awhile then I notice it going off more. I've seen it go off a few times driving down the road for a second or two as well.

Wow

I am curious as to why you people are having this problem, I have an 01 supercrew 5.8L and have had no problems other then being able to change the tire size. I have had the alerts on and off and nothing happens. sorry to hear you are having problems. Im local to edge anyways and have had no issues with their TECHS

My edge shows the same alert... So stupid! I sent emails to edge, but of course I haven't had a response in over 2 weeks. And I'm too busy to sit on hold for half an hour to talk to some stupid human who only cares about the hours on his timecard and not the customers who keep them in business.

DOWN WITH MSD & ALL THERE CHITTY TUNERS w/NO SUPPORT!

I'm ordering my Troyer tomorrow.

Anyone want my edge? It's only a couple weeks old.

I have run mine for almost a year, never gotten any alert at all. Works perfectly. Sounds as if MSD buying out Edge ended all service. That's not good.
