Which Troyer Tuner?
I have been reading lots of good posts in this forum on the troyer tunes and am interested in getting one. The problem is I can't decide on what to get and if it is available. I have a 2000 F-150 4x4 with the 4.6L V8. Not very impressed with the throttle response and power of the standard tune. I have seen lots of posts about the edge evolution, but the troyer site says it's only for the 2004-2006 F-150; and of course I want to buy it with the troyer custom tunes. I have seen the pictures people have posted with the edge in their truck and I like the look and the gauges. Other option seems to be the excal2, but there doesn't seem to be a display like the edge. What to do????? Is there any huge advantages to either with this truck?
???
So all of the posts in these forums about people with edge evolutions are just running standard "can" tunes? Does anyone have this edge setup on their truck with the 4.6? And if so, what do you think?? The performance of the stock truck sucks, to say the least. Looking to really add some ***** to this beast.
Hi jshooter70,
Well, first of all, you have the 4.6, and it simply doesn't have "*****" compared to a 5.4, because it has a much shorter stroke, and thus it makes significantly less torque.
Now that certainly can be improved upon, and the single best bang for the buck is our Troyer Performance custom tuning - forget worrying about what *device* is used to load the tuning, and think about the actual *tuning*, as *that* is what makes the difference - not the device used to deliver the tuning.
No, you cannot get any kind of custom tuning from Edge - we carry that product line as well as several others - your best results by far will be had with our Troyer Performance custom tuning, as we have specialized in the performance tuning & modifications of these vehicles for 15+ years - far longer than anyone else. We have custom tuned more of them than anyone else in the world, bar none - that is what we do, specialize in F-series performance.
the 4.6 trucks do respond nicely to tuning, that is the single best bang for the buck - just don't' expect it to feel like a supercharger.
Our tuning will not only give you more torque and horsepower at any throttle position or rpm, but will also make the powertrain response time much quicker, clean up the nasty, soft, slushy shifting of the factory automatic transmission's calibration, improve overall driveability, etc.
The 4.6's also tend to have an issue in that many of them are not even allow to go open loop from the factory, and on *those* trucks, we gain even more power than we normally do by fixing that problem - which can only be fixed in a custom tune. Roughly 70% of the 1997-2003 4.6 F-150's have this issue, as do a similarly high percentage of the 4.2 V6 trucks - this was something Ford did to try to make them get better fuel mileage at full-throttle, but frankly, it's not smart - when you are at heavy throttle you are there for one reason - because you need power, NOW! And to take away form that simply doesn't make sense in my book - it's more important to get up to speed, or to get the load up a grade, etc., and then you can settle back down to lighter throttle cruising, but never compromise a vehicle's power under heavy load like that.
This is just some quick brief info for you, and I hope it helps - please feel free to give us a call and we'll be more than happy to go over all of this in proper detail with you, let you know what we can do for your vehicle, the differences between our custom tuning versus the "off the shelf" tuning products that we also carry, and we can discuss with you just what you are looking to get out of your vehicle, and let you know what it actually takes to get there - in other words, get you fully informed with correct and accurate information so you can make your decision, whatever it may be, from a fully informed position.
Thanks for your post, best of luck with your truck & we hope to hear from you!

Thanks for all the info Mike. I now see why everyone here speaks so highly of you!! Great information, and I appreciate you taking the time to write me; as I am sure your very busy!! Pretty much sold on the xcal2, but convincing the wife to let me spend the money is another story...Once I get her on board with the tuner, I'll give you a ring to discuss what I am looking for. Thanks Again!!!
