superchip tuner
I have a 1992 f-150 with a 5.0 i have been looking at the superchip
Superchip (single program) for 1987-2003 FoMoCo Vehicles on troyer performance..it says i have to run 91 octane...would i see an improvement with 87 octane and octane booster..
what is the stock top speed limiter set at on this truck?
what does it recalibrate it to?
Will i get improved gas mileage?
could someone please answer these questions
Thanks

I only have expefrience with the late modle F150 and Superchip. SO my responses are only based upon that...

If it says run 91, run 91. I run 91 and see an improvement in my mpg by 1 -2 mpog plus I get better performance.

Right around 100 on mine (I think)
what does it recalibrate it to?
Can recalibrate to many things and adjust for gearing, tire change, etc.
Will i get improved gas mileage?
If you keep your foot out of it....

Hi foreman,
You need to run the correct gasoline octane specified - and by the way, you will *never* find a way to run 87 octane and pump it up with octane booster and have that be cheaper - it just does not ever work like that, regardless of what it says on the can/bottle of octane boost - they do not add enough actual octane at a price cheap enough to do it that way instead of doign it correclty, which is to burn premium gas on the type of chip you are talking about.
Additionally, just so you will know, all octane boosters have ingredients that form deposits on the spark plugs & O2 sensors that cause problems if used for any real length of time - octane boosters should be used ONLY as a short term emergency type of thing - never as a routine, ok?
So you need to use the octane level that the device tunes the vehicle for.
What most people do is to use our Troyer Performance custom tuning in a hand-held tuner (or in your case, it would be a chip due to the age of the vehicle and the type of PCM it has) that provides *multiple* tunes, not just one tune - that way you can have tunes for 87 octane as well as for premium gas, and thus have more flexibility.
If you'd like to go over this in more detail, please feel free to give us a call at our number listed below & we'll be happy to help.
Thanks for your post & good luck with your truck!
