Just a Question
Just a Question
I am trying to decide if I should get a tuner or not. If it is so easy to up the power, make the trans. shift better and make it run cooler and last longer, what is the down side? Why wouldn't Ford not send them from the factory like that. What is the downside. Don't bring up waranty that is always a fight.
I am willing to take the risk for the return but I don't understand the risk.
Please don't send me up in flames I am just asking.
Thanks
Bob

All of these questions can be answered by searching the forums, this will be quicker than waiting on Mike's response. He has already answered these questions in previous posts. I will try to digg some up for you.

For me personally, there’s hasn’t been a downside to my Troyer Performance tunes. I got a 04 F150 and I’ve been running Mikes custom tunes since late 04 when the XCal first hit the market. Since then, I’ve upgraded to the XCal2; but use the same tunes. The most significant reason I have to give the thumbs-up to TP’s custom tunes is the reliability factor; never had a technical problem or any kind of problem, nothing. It’s been “set it and forget it” then enjoy the ride from there because it all good
Hi Bob,
That is a very commonly asked question that we have answered here literally hundreds upon hundreds of times over the years - a lot of people who do not have experience modifying vehicles for more performance do not understand this, quite naturally, just like I probably don't know much about whatever it is you do for a living!
Just FYI - you can easily use the SEARCH feature to look up answers to this and virtually anything else related to the topic of this section of the boards. In fact, any time you want to know something, get into the habit of using the SEARCH feature here, that is what it is for, so anyone can look up anything they want to know 24 hrs a day.
OK, back to your question -
In short, the simple fact is there is no such thing as any vehicle that cannot be significantly improved upon in it's tuning and in virtually any other aspect, from braking to handling to you name it - that is precisely why the aftermarket exists! And that is nothing new, it's always been that way since the very first automobile was built - and will continue to be that way. It's the nature of the beast.
In short, this is automotive performance 101 stuff, so to speak - no vehicle comes optimized from the factory for best performance, not a Corvette, and certainly not a pickup truck. Automakers have far different priorities than the performance enthusiast has in 99% of the vehicles designed & built, and automakers are also limited to a single tune solution, where we provide 3 different custom tunes for each vehicle we tune, which allows far more flexibility. It doesn't matter if it's a Cobra, Viper, Corvette or a pickup truck, there is always better performance, driveability, etc to be had from the PCM programming - they simply do not spend the time optimizing them in the manner that we do, and what we do here at Troyer Performance does NOT harm the vehicle in any way. You can see that by spending 5 minutes here on the boards - you will quickly see that there is no pattern of vehicles blowing up & failing because they have been properly tuned, just like there has never been any such pattern for any vehicles since the dawn of the automobile **when it is tuned properly by a knowledgeable expert.** - and that is perhaps the key to remember, I suppose.
We have specialized in this platform for over 15 years, and have custom tuned more of these F-series trucks than anyone else in the world, literally - nobody knows them better from a performance improvement standpoint - their limitations, what they benefit from the best for whatever type of operation & desires each individual vehicle owner has, etc. It's what we do - just like there are bridge engineers, there are performance experts like us who have invested millions of dollars & many years perfecting our craft.
So we can easily tune your vehicle for better performance, throttle response, driveability, power & torque as well as vastly improve the shifting characteristics in the automatics without reducing the reliability or durability of that vehicle.
If you'd like to find out more about what we can do for your vehicle and why most F-150 owners looking for the best tuning come to us here at Troyer Performance, just give us a call at our number listed below & we'll be happy to help you, OK?
Thanks for your post, & I hope that helps your understanding a little bit better on this.
