Im in the process of purchasing a diablo sport predator programer for my 05 reg cab 4.6, and i heard that the programmer can become "vin locked". I'm planning on selling the programmer eventually and i heard that if you do something wrong it will only work on my vehicle. is this true? Thanks in advance! By the way...im new to the forums and i can't believe all the help iv'e recieved! Ive been looking for something like this for a long time. I used to ask my dealer about my vehicle and youd think a ford dealer might know about a ford truck, but they always looked at me like I had 3 friggin heads! I actually get truthfull answers from you guys and dont feel like a moron asking ! so thanks!

 

Hi & welcome.

It will, as the other flash tuners do, 'VIN lock' upon first use of the new tuner. This is normal, & prevents it's unauthorized use on another vehicle at the same time - protecting the manufacturer's intellectual property (and revenue stream )

When you are going to sell it, return your vehicle to the 'stock' proggy - this should 'unlock' the unit so the next buyer can use it.

If this isn't already in Chester's cookbook, it should be. Haven't looked.

BTW - why Diablo - just curious

well, I went with the diablo because I can get a brand new one on ebay for 289 with shipping....I know everyone on here seems to be edge crazy but im kinda strapped for cash. Are there any other tuners in my price range? $300 or so? is the diablo not a good tuner? Thanks for the help!

 

Edge evo is probably somewhere around there.

Conventional wisdom suggests that you should not shop for performance mods based solely on price, as you usually get what you pay for ...

IMHO, choose what gives you the best results ( Search here for that - not everyone is 'Edge' crazy). Then, be patient and SAVE until you can acquire it.

Not a lot of good things being said about Diablo - some, but not a lot. You can Search here for that too.

You can get tuners in your price range you just have to keep an eye out for the deals. Autoanything just had a sale on the edge for 318.00 with free shipping. Just keep looking and you will find a deal, I would try to stay away from Ebay for something like a tuner just because if you ever have a problem with it then who are you going to call? I also like to buy stuff off of Ebay but for this type of mod I would purchase from a dealer that I could return it to or get support if I ever needed it. I would also agree that not everyone is Edge crazy, but there are alot of people that have eather purchased the edge or a tuner from Troyer and love the performance they got from that unit they bought. Amazingly i've never had any problems out of my diablo, i've had an edge and a superchip, and this one so far can do the most extensive remapping, i ordered different tunes from diablo and there quite useful

 

Mr. Troyer said that he would match anybody's price. If you're looking for an EDGE you might consider buying it from him....

 

Right Chester, I got mine from Troyer today and he matched autoanything. P.S. no more sale on auto... they are now like $348.

 

this may sound kinds crzy....but i bought my truck tunexd and didnt get the tuner with it. THe truck just doesnt feel like it has a lot of power. A few years ago I had a 98 f150 xcab w/ 4.6 and it felt much more powerfuil than the new truck. All i really want to do is get my truck back to stock( even if it means I have to take it to a dealer) and get a tuner just so i can adjust the speedo for my wheels and 3:73 gears. Im not really to crazy about changing shift pressure and points because mine are definately changed now and in my opinion it feels like crap.takes way to long to shift and shifts way to hard. I get smoother shifts out of my 05 stang gt 5 speed than i do in the truck, for this reason im not really wanteing to spend a ton of cash on a tuner. All i want is a tuner that a can adjust the speedo with, and maybe fugure out something for better gas mileage in a perfect situation. Also this may sound stupid but i hear a lot of talk about troyer performance. What is troyer performance and who is mike troyer? Thanks Guys!
