Best Programmer for 4.2L v6
Hey guys, I'm new around here, and I apologize if this is a re-post. I couldn't come up with anything in the search feature.
I've recently decided to start upgrading my 98 F-150 4.2L v6, and I've heard a tuner is a good start. Can anyone recommend a good tuner for this engine? Any help would be great.

I am quite impressed with the results I got from my XCAL2 from Troyer Performance. I originally got it for the main purpose of recalibrating my speedometer after getting over sized tires. I was very surprised as to what a difference it made with the performance, I can only imagine how it would be if I had my stock tires on. The AF1 CAI compliments the tunes as well.

What most people here do is come to us for our Troyer Performance custom tuning, as we have specialized in these vehicles for far longer than anyone else, 15+ years now - in fact, we routinely get called in to help others in this industry with tuning, help developing performance parts, etc. because of our expertise in the F-series platform.
You'll be very happy to know that the 4.2 V6 responds *very* well to tuning, and fort those who do a lot of mods, the 4.2 V6 (and this is just generla FYI info) can actually take more "abuse" in terms of a percentage of power gain than the 4.6 or 5.4 V8's can take (thogh the V8's are certainly stout) - you'd really be surprised at just how much those 4.2 V6's can take.
At any rate, what we do is provide you with a set of 3 different custom tunes, set up for each individual vehicle owner's preferences, needs, & how they use their vehicles, and provide them to you in a simple plug-n-play hand-held tuner that also has many other features - complete diagnostics, the worlds fastest datalogger, and many other features.
So you get tuning that is made for YOUR individual vehicle and how you want it set up - you're not stuck with "generic" "canned" tunes that are made for all similar vehicles - this is a very important distinction, as unlike any other vehicle, the F-150 has literally *hundreds* of different PCM (powertrain control module, or "computer") revisions each and every model year - so the off the shelf products do not provide a complete strategy match - this is why sometimes they work OK, and sometimes they don't work very well, it just depends on how close your vehicle's PCM is to what tuning is inside those off the shelf types of devices. But in all cases, we gain more safe & sustainable performance increase.
We get significantly better power & performance gains because we go much further in depth into the tuning of the PCM - we are optimizing hundreds of parameters, something not done by any off the shelf type of device.
