4RFFMLY,
You can't compare the drivetrain loss between a car and truck. They are different due to heavier transmissions, transfer cases, etc. Let alone that bigger tires will decrease your RWHP. If you want to go after Ford over this...good luck. I am sure you will lose.

The 5.4 3v out hauls the hemi and 5.3 so you paid for a good TRUCK engine IMO. The new 6.0L chevy engine is the big mystery. It barely can tow more than the 5.4 3v??
No other good way to put this but why I bought my truck is none of your bussiness. You and I buy them for our own reasons. You have yours I have mine OK

What the hell are you talking about I dont give a crap why you bought your truck. But know one wants to hear about your sorrows b/c a truck looses a crap load of hp through drivetrain heck I even agreed with you, so get your panties out of a wad and stop crying...OK

Then why would you post a satement saying " If you were buying these trucks for the hp you shouldn't have bought a truck" that in it self is your generalization and your opinion, the way you feel. If I paid 20k plus for a truck that is supposed to make 300hp it damn well better make it.And this is a public forum there were no sorrows being conveyed simply a question if you cant answer it or shed some insight then there's really no reason for you to chime in unless you know about the crankshaft HP.

Hi.

You two guys are a hoot.

Reminds me of the pi$$ing contests I used to get into here

The facts are:

> driveline losses are indeed huge on these trucks, ignoring that will not make it go away.

> the 5.4 3V does indeed make 300 honest HP @ the crank. Or it would if the factory tune would allow it to actually shift at an RPM that would give it a chance to reach rated power. This is one of the (many) reasons Mike Troyer's custom tuning transforms how the truck feels & performs.

> soccer moms want smooth, seamless torque delivery

> it's not prudent to argue with experienced, honest folks like Marc & Troyer Performance

Going to a dyno day to do a before/after run is a great idea.

Kiss/make up/get a room or whatever....

Thanks for the entertainment.

Cheers
Bubba

I agree, it DOES make 300hp....just not where you want it.

Pretty much every single HP spec you see from a manufacturer are from the crank?? All I'm saying is their is no way to check ANY HP to the crank on any vehicle unless you pull the engine. I doubt they are lying especially after the Cobra stuff went on awhile back. Then again no one can ever get a true answer out of any Dyno. They are all different. It's very hard to get high HP out of these truck b/c they are made to make power down low. Its start to get really expensive trying to make these trucks high HP monsters. Heck the most I'll ever tow is our Deck Boat "2 tons" So I wouldnt mine getting more HP out of these engines. From what I hear Gears are a very good start as they are way undergeared. I want to do as much as possible without having to add a forced induction system

P.S.- I wasn't saying you shouldn't have bought a truck if you wanted a high powered engine. I know many trucks that are great performers. A regular truck is made for great low end torque, but a performance truck like a lightning, SS, SRT-10 are not they are your truck exceptions that isn't my opinion that is just a fact. Sorry if it sounded negative, it wasnt meant to be. I was just trying to explain that normal trucks aren't HP freaks they are TQ freaks

I was simply trying to get real world numbers on the 5.4 3v. Weather or not someone had actual numbers from one of these trucks. 4x4 or 4x2.Just some stock #'s. I personaly dont think Ford would purposley lie about hp#'s but I know first hand that not all of thier vehichles end up anywhere close to the numbers they claim them to have. I did not buy my truck to use any one particular way. I have a travel trailer I tow but I also dont mind letting the pedal hit the floor every now and then. The 5.4 3v has alot of potential. I dont want to get into the whole "you should have bought a mustang if you wanted to go fast" cenario. I like trucks and I like to make em go fast. Thats just me. Sure I would like to have a Lightning but it doesnt have four doors. Of course if the new Harleys were still supercharged I would be all over that. But they're not, so Im just trying to make mine as close to a performance toy hauler as I can. At least thats the plan. If it was'nt for the travel trailer my truck would already be lowered but I guess that will have to wait. These trucks have a good platform to build on sure you might have to depart with a little cash (actually alot) but It can be done.
