Check your strategy!

Just an FYI... got my tunes the other day and I was very excited about loading them up. After ordering the tunes during the group buy, and before they arrived, the truck was in for warranty repairs which is another long story. Anyway, just being thorough, I checked the strategy before loading the tunes, and sure enough, they flashed the PCM. What this means is now I have to wait for new tunes. So, word to the wise.... first - make sure to check the strategy before loading the tunes just to be certain. Secondly, definitely tell the dealer NOT to flash the PCM when or if the truck is there. It's costing me money!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not even sure of what kind of problems I would have had loading the tunes up with the new strategy, so I am glad I checked.

At least EDGE adds support for new calibrations without any extra charges. I was able to move the EDGE Evo from my 04 to my 06 without any problem. When new calibrations come out EDGE eventually gets them written into their programming.

Well, sounds like that worked out well for you. I would wonder how optimized your tuning is since the PCM rev. and strategy couldn't be the same between the '04 and '06. Or were you able to download specific tuning for the '06?

EDGE writes support for specific calibrations into their programming. It is not a generic tune for multiple calibrations. They keep a list of the supported calibrations on their web site. They write their tuning for each calibration.

Hey f150driver86,
You don't have a high enough post count to accept PM's. Do you have an e-mail address? I have a question I need to ask you.

I guess I am confused. Why can't you load your tunes that you just received again? I don't understand why you think that you need new tunes? Won't the tuner just download that stock tune and then apply the new tunes? I guess I don't fully understand strategy....

Different PCM's, have different strategys. The custom tunes are written for a specific strategy and will not work on another. You can look at the strategy as a sort of code if that makes sense.

Late reply... been out of town. It's all in the coding. Strategy XXXX01 is going to be different from XXXX02. Would the tunes work? Probably for the most part. Why take a chance? Maybe once in a while something wierd might happen, or maybe it would run horribly off the bat. Live and learn I guess .....
