MikeT/Anyone>Delete DTC's

Not sure if right forum ?

Spent time here with old ride. Got s/c from MikeT. Seems I recall at that time unhooking batts. would delete any DTC's that had been set. Do appreciate if anyone knows & can clarify....

Q...Would unhooking batts. on a 6 L PSD erase any set DTC's. TIA

btw...I dont have a scanner to verify.

Can't say for sure, but that sounds right. I'd leave it unhooked for 20 or 30 minutes to make sure though.--DIY

Hi Old Timer,

Good to "see" you again!

Yes, disconnecting the batter will clear "KAM" (keep-alive memory), and thus clear out any diagnostic codes except for a P1000 - which simply means that power to the PCM has been interrupted, as happens when you disconnect a bater, and that one will go away on it's own in a little while.

Now of course, keep in mind that if you are having a problem, you WANT to keep that code and read it so that the underlying problem can be diagnosed, of course.

Good luck!
