FYI. Etiquette is that when your email or posts are in CAPITALS it means you are yelling angrily.

I had the Superchips 1715. I can say that the 87 did nothing, the performance tune was great and the performance towing tune is what my F250 stayed with. So for the XCAL2 I picked 87 performance, 91 performance and 91 tow performance. Crystal recommended firm shifting. I will see how that works out but I am pretty sure that what I chose as far as tunings will be what I stay with. I have heard mixed reviews on the firm shifting.

One factor is if you will tow a lot. Mike addressed items to consider when chosing tunes in another thread and helped me be confident that I made a good choice when I got the 87 max, 87 tow and 93 max. I will not tow a lot so I will mostly be between the 87 max and 93 max.

I went with 87 economy, 89 tow and 93 performance, but I'm not sure if I should switch the tow tune to 93 since I haven't got the tuner yet.

If I were you, I wouldn't order tunes for 3 different octane ratings. My opinion is that if you're going to get a tow tune, get it for the same gas as your regular tune is for. That way, if you have to tow something on short notice you'll have the right gas for the tune. If you're dead-set on running an 87 tune for everyday driving, then 87 perf/tow and 93 perf would be a good combo.

The nice thing about this tuner is that if you don't like those tunes, he can send you new ones and you can upload them to the tuner via the USB port on your computer. I think you will be changing your mind.

There is so little difference as a percent in price from one grade to the next that it doesn't make sense on a big truck to run anything other than high octane. If the price of gas is 2 bucks for regular and 91 or 93 is 20 cents more then you are only paying 10 percent more for a higher octane gas. If the price goes to 3 bucks a gallon and the difference is still only 20 cents, the gas company pricing game, then you are only paying 6 percent more for the higher octane.

Get the higher octane tunes. I tried the 87 octane tunes with the 1715 and there is only so much they can do with that grade of fuel to improve performance. The real gains are in the higher octane.
