Why do I need to remove the fuel/fan relay to program XCAL-2?

In the instructions it states to remove the two fuses (fuel and electric fans) before programming.
Why? What purpose does this serve? I searched and could not find my answer.
Just curious.
I assume I need to do this when I program my 2005 model? I dont have E-Fans so just the fuel pump.
Thanks.

04 and up don’t have to pull the fuel pump fuse, it should say that in the instructions but basically, you want everything turned off, accessories, etc, etc, when you’re flashing the PCM so nothing can cause a glitch when loading a new tune

I had the same concern and it was enough to get me to call SCT tech support. They say that the 2 fuses had to be removed because on the older cars, when the PCM is getting flashed, there is a small amount of voltage that gets fed into the fuel pump causing the fuel pump to dump fuel on the cylinders causing it to hydrolock.

They gave me a second reason, I forgot what it was, but basically, it causes the PCM to lose the flash completely and you would just need to re-flash. I didn't bother remember this in complete detail because they assured my that my year is ok and that they only osbserved this on older vehicles.

To be sure you are ok, I would call tech support @ 407.774.2447 mon-fri 9:00am to 5:00pm EST.

Well that would suck if that happened. Especially since I just got my truck back three days ago after they put a new engine in it. Guess what for?

HYDROLOCKING.
One injector froze open and well, you can guess the rest.
