To Mike and the Entire Troyer Team!!!!

Hey Guys,

Well Mike and his team are just incredible!

I just got back from a mini-vacation in which my girlfriend took me to an indoor water park to celebrate my 24th birthday. For those who haven't seen me around the boards for the past couple months, I've been working like crazy (or like the Troyer team) with 70 hour work weeks for the past couple months, and it was great to have some quiet time without work around.

I just checked my email and had the biggest suprise I could have expected. I'll post it in quotes on here so you can truely see how great of a company Troyer Performance is and so I don't inaccruately show or try to describe in text what they did for me.

"Hi,

Sorry we're a little late for your birthday!!! We did the best we could and still kept everyone in their proper place in line, so we really hustled to get them done this quick - I hope that helps you have a little fun this weekend!! "

I'm shocked, stunned and can't believe it.

Tomorrow morning I'm installing the 3.25 AF1 and the tunes. Words on an online forum can't describe it. The Troyer team is getting a call Monday.

Thanks again,

Duke

No arguments here. I've never dealt with a company whose customer service was as personable and knowledgable as Troyer's. I don't know where he found these people or what he tells them, but they are amazing. It's great to have a company that has not only the best products, but the best customer service as well.

Well here comes the install of the 3.25 AF1 and the tunes. I was initally going to wait till Tuesday night b/c the truck will be going to the dealer tuesday morning for an oil change, a rattle in the steering column, rattle in the rear window, and the brake slide pins are sticking. I didn't want to have the modified parts conversation but I don't think they'll give that talk to me as a tuner and intake have nothing to do with my brakes or interior rattles.

I'll give a more formal write-up and review a little later after I give the tune a chance to settle in. I'm going to run this full tank on the 87 tune and then go with the 91 oct tune.

Question: - Just figured I'd ask here before calling TP since it's a minor question. I'll try and call during lunch if my lunch meeting gets rescheduled.

Changing the tire size. I thought you do this when you're loading the tune and it gives you the option to do user changes. I pressed down and it gave different options for spark. I got nervous and immediately pressed cancel to let it just tune the truck. Should I have kept pressing down to get the tire option change menu or was I in the wrong area? If I want to change tire size, does it have to completely reflash the truck or can I just plug in and change it?

Right now I'm running the 87 oct max perf tune as I wanted to try that before going with the 91 oct max perf tune.

AF1:

The AF1 is completely stock sounding at idle and crusing speeds. However, it makes significant noise at WOT, which is to be expected. One thing I'm going to try to get rid of is the noise it makes at 2100 or 2200 RPMS. For a split second when it hits those RPMs it makes the noise it does at WOT which is kind of annoying. However, like I said it's only a split second. I believe I read in a few threads that moving the filter further down the AF1 pipe will help get rid of this.

87 Oct Perf Tune:

The tune was installed last night so it needs a little while to fully kick in. When I first started driving the shifts were a little too firm, but adaptive strategy smoothed them out to being just firm by the time I made it to the end of my street.

I did the running at 70mph, press OD to lock it out, and then floor it fun move that TP wrote about. The spring back from the firmer shift is quite fun and you can feel a little faster acceleration then what I had doing that before I installed the AF1 and 87 perf tune. I can't wait to try the 91 oct.

The only critque at this point is the part throttle response when going 60 mph. This is especially noticeable when going up hill. I keep pushing the peddle down further and nothing happens until I get to 3/4 throttle and then it downshifts giving me more power. The caviat to this is that the truck needs longer for adaptive strategy to fully kick in before I see if this critque stays. If it does then it'll be something to bring up with Mike when I do my datalogging and dyno. I'll be doing the data logging and dyno within the next two weeks.

Thanks everyone and especially thanks to Mike and his staff for exceeding expecations in getting me the tunes. That was epecially kind of you! I'll be getting my datalogging and dyno reports to you in the next two weeks.

Funny you mention that part throttle response issue on 87 perf tune Duke. I've had my tuner over a year now and I have the same issue. It only seems to be a problem on the 87 perf tune though. I have the 93 tow and 93 perf tunes also and the truck runs great on them. It just seems to take a lot of pedal travel at cruise speed to get any response....hello engine room??

Hmm, well I'll still give the adaptive strategy its chance. When I send my data logging and dyno runs into TP, I'll also include a note about part throttle response on the 87 tune.

Did you notice a big difference between your 87 perf tune and the high oct perf tune? I'm getting antsy and want to try the higher octane tune now, but will wait out the 87 oct gas and get a better all around feel of the 87 oct tune.

Do you have the AF1 too? I wonder if they're any other hints on the 2100 RPM deal. Other then WOT and 2100 RPMs the AF1 is suprising silent! I was expecting a lot more noise based on some reviews. But then again maybe they were talking about the 2100 RPM split second noise type moan, and it doesn't bother others. I'm personally on the fence about it. It doesn't bother me per say, but if I could get rid of it, I would. I'll try adjusting the filter tonight after work.

Yes...BIG difference on the higher octane tunes. I've pretty much settled in on the 93 tow as my favorite every day tune. The truck is tons peppier than on the 87 tune and the shifts are a little softer (with my user adjustments.) I still run the stock intake but do have a Magnaflow SIDO exhaust. Now that gas has come down a little (93 here is 2.19 gal) trust me you will never go back after trying the premium gas tunes!

Awesome, I'll be switching over to my 91 oct perf tune next week then. I went with 91 oct b/c it's really tough to find 93 around here and when I go up north it's not provided anywhere. 91 is the highest north of the cities in MN.

WOT noise at only 2000 RPM

I have the same noise coming from my system after I installed the tunes and AF1 3.25" last wednesday night, I am currently using the 87 performance. Does moving the filter eliminate this early WOT noise ??

Don't know, I'm going to try it tonight after work.

My WOT noise seems to have dissipated with some time being driven or by me being a little lighter on the gas pedal !? Still interested if you sound goes away or not though Duke !

I haven't had time after work the past couple nights. I should though tomorrow night which I'll follow up with this thread on Thursday night or Friday morning.

I slid my airfilter as far up the tube [towards the throttle body] as it would go and still have the "blurb" at wot at the 2200rpm mark. But as you said, it is just a quick "blat" and then it is gone. Tonight I'll try moving the filter all the way out and see what happens.

I have the same pedal travel as you do [97 performance tune]-> I was just putting this off to the torque converter remaining locked. Maybe I am wrong on that-> not real familar with the electronic torque converters. Waiting until I run this load of 92 octane thru before I punch up the 92 performance...just sitting here drooling . I love the 87 and can't wait to try the 92.

PS: My MPG has gone way down: but I am to blame-just can't keep my foot out of it!
