Troyer 91 performance shifting question

Since gas is going down a little, I decided to tune my 06 Lariat with the 91 performance tune from Mike T.
I was running the 87 performance tune for 5 months now and couldn’t be happier.
For some reason the 87 tune shifted firmer and faster then the 91 tune I have now.
The 91 tune has been in for 4 days now. Will the shifts start getting faster?
It is only during the 1st to 2nd.
Just wondering if anyone else seems to have the same thing? It is not a problem or issue. It is just a preference. So I just want to make sure no one thinks I am flaming Troyer!

I am going to e-mail Troyer, just to ask if anything can be changed without having to send it back, because I live in Canada.

Thanks everyone

Hi Smoke & fellow Canuck

I'd give it some time & let the adaptive strategy do it's thing.

For myself, I first tried the 87 perf, then moved on to 92 perf and could not be happier with the shifting, not to mention the performance - and it just keeps getting better with time .

Worst case, if some tweaking is required, it's just an email update - not necessary to return the unit. You'd just need to download some free utilities from SCT's site to facilitate this.

Hope this helps.

Cheers
Bubba

In my experience, shifts are always the hardest when the tune is first loaded, and then adaptive strategy tames it some; you might need a tweak

Thanks MGD

I didn't know they could just send a new file. I thought I would have to send it back. That's great news

Thanks fellow Canuck

Hi Smokestone,

There will not be any changes needed - there is no difference whatsoever in the shifting between our performance tunes for different levels of octane in terms of the shift points, or the shift firmness levels - this is simply adaptive strategy at work, and just as we point out in our docs, this can take hundreds of miles and dozens of drive cycles to settle in to however the vehicle is being operated.

But there is *no* difference in any of that between an 87 octane performance tune, an 89 octane performance tune, a 90 octane performance tune, a 91 octane performance tune, a 93 octane performance tune, etc., etc. That is the same in any performance tune for any level of octane, so this is simply your truck going thru adaptive strategy, and there is no change needed to your tuning - it's your truck reacting to being reflashed.

I would just drive it for a month or so to let it settle in, and then if you want the shifts firmer, use the adjustment already built into the XCalibrator 2 - that is something you can easily do yourself, we do not need to do that - rad your docs on the XCalibrator and you will see that you have that adjustment capability,

And by the way - DON'T do any such adjustment for at least a month after a reflash, to let adaptive strategy do it's thing, as it takes a while - and the newer the vehicle (especially 2004 & newer), the longer that process takes - so my advice is to just drive it like you always do and just let it dial itself in - that is exactly what it did before, it had to dial itself in, and it has to do that now, and anytime you flash the PCM, or disconnect the battery, you clear out all of the previous adaptive strategy adjustments the PCM makes on it's own.

Thanks Mike

That's great info.

So its just adaptive needing to set.

So when I load troyers tunes for the very first time should I disconnect the battery for a while to dump any stored stragies or just load them and let it over ride the old ones?

No need to disconnect the battery...

I downloaded my 93 octane tune for the first time on Friday and ran the truck several times on an out of town trip...it took a few miles for the new tune to kick in, but when it finally did, I noticed it right away...it's definitely stronger than the 87 octane tune...
