Drivetrain Loss
p.s. i heard rumor there is a new 5.0 aluminium motor floating around, supposed to be pretty impressive, however i believe ford is going to use the 5.4 dohc. motor in the f150, kinda like a detuned version of the one they use in the GT..
I have witnessed far too many dynos to say that all trucks lose the same % of power between the crankshaft and rearwheels. Using my '04 5.4 4x4 Supercrew as an example, I went from the advertised 300hp at the crank to a miseralbe 200hp at the rearwheels, in the stock form.
I am now making right at 250hp at the wheels burning 87 octane fuel with Mikes tuning...BUT THATS ALL ABOUT TO CHANGE REAL SOON...

Mark Carpenter, I would be very interested in knowing what mods you have made to your 4x4, 5.4, supercrew to go from 200 to 250 rwhp. I have the same setup in a 2006 which is currently totally stock. It feels like I am also driving about 200 rwhp stock and would love to get to 250 without having to get too aggressive with mods. Could you let me know what all you have done to your truck to get there???? Thanks. Also, what are you getting ready to do to the truck with your "that's all about to change" comment????
Hi Lakeport Loafer.
I have what equates to Mike Troyers Stage1 Package.
I have a 3.25" Airforce1 intake, a Magnaflow catback (Lightning style) single in dual out exhaust, a custom tuned XCal2, and have installed electric fans that were not on the vehicle before it was dynoed..We have not had it back on the dyno since the fans were installed. We also have not dynoed it on the 93 octane performance tune either. We did however spend several hours dynoing and tweaking my 87 octane performance tune to get the horsepower it is presently producing. We will NOT be dynoing my present 93 octane performance tune as sometime in the near future, as soon as Mike gets caught up with his present work load, and I can get down to his shop, we will be installing a new Roush supercharger on my truck...
You should also be aware that my truck averages 18 to 19 mpg on the highway, running 75-85 mph on cruise..
Of course my aerodynamics are a little different from most 4x4 Supercrews as I have lowered it 2"/5". I am also running a 285/70/17 tire on 17x9" rims, so if I would go back to the stock tires and wheels, both the horsepower numbers and my gas mileage would increase accordingly.
