Edge issue.. Nothing big...

Alright well recently I have noticed that sometimes when I start my truck the screen on the Edge doesnt come up.. Or sometimes it will come up but it will be a solid green screen and no image. So I have to unplug the unit and start my truck a couple times in order for it to come up correctly...

I have heard of some of these problems before on here but am wondering if this could be an issue that can be solved my updating it? I have been running on the same downloaded program and software for the past 4 months... I havent updated it in that time because everything was working well for me so I didnt see a need to update it...

What do you guys think? Thanks for any help...

Matt

I hate to say it but I think the life of the unit is not as long as predicted. Hopefully I'm wrong, but I think we can expect more of the units to fail in the near future.

I have had no problems with mine, but I keep expecting it anyday.

Your not the first to have the blank screen. Maybe a search will show the last problem like yours and how it was fixed.

Alright well I called Edge this evening and the guy told me to first update the unit. He said this might fix the problem.. If that doesnt work he said to call them back and they will go and see about replacing it.

But after I got off the phone I got to thinking about it and I went to the store and when I started it up everything was fine. Leaving the store I started up and it was fine.

Noticing that it was reasonably cooler out than it was earlier and remembering that I have read some posts on here about the heat affecting the units screen. But the weather today only got into the low to mid 80's but with the windows partially cracked it would get hotter inside the vehicle..

So now I am just wondering if it is the heat causing the unit to do this and was wondering if replacing the unit would even fix this issue...

So I got thinking about it some more and should I take it out of the pod when I am at work and out it somewhere out of the sun? Because I did notice that earlier today around 2:30pm when all of this was happening I pulled the unit out and it was really warm...

I don't think it is so much the temp outside as it is if the unit is in direct sunlight. It hasn't happened to my Edge unit yet, but my Sat radio with LCD has gone blank, or very dim on occasion, several times when the sun was beating on it. I just throw a towel over it when I'm at work and have not had a problem since. I think this is a common problem with the LCD displays.

My Edge screen goes dim in about 80+ degree heat. Then in 95+ is is too dark to read. I need to call edge and see if they will send me a new one.

Alright well today it was about 10 degrees cooler and I had no problems this morning with the unit.. I unplugged the unit while i was at work and when I left I plugged it in and had no problems with it again.. So it must have been the heat from the sun...

Just mount the POD in the ash tray that way you can just close it when you're not drivin and it's out of the sun and view of potiential thieves!!! Unless you really like it where it's at. . .. .

Just an idea.. .

It's definately the heat. I've had the same issue on my Edge as well as my sat. radio tuner. Since I'm paranoid about theives and don't have anywhere else to mount it, I usually just leave it in my center console even when I'm driving unless I'm going long distances and/or need the guages. That way if I need to put it back to stock for any reason, I can. I don't really care what my tranny temp is when I'm going 5 blocks to the store.

He doesn't have the center flow through console.
