Question about custom tuning.
Question about custom tuning.
I have not seen this asked yet. I know that you have to have the hex code for your truck before TP dose the tunes. Now lets say you have to take the truck in for sevice. And the dealership dose reflashes your pcm. Would there be any poblems with useing your custom tunes (setup for the original hex)?
Maybe someone could answer this. Just something I was contemplating while reading some of the threads.

I think that you would probably be able to use the Edge but custom tunes from TP wouldnt work if they reflashed the CPU. I think TP would just have to have the new hex code or CPU code and then they could update it.
Question for you Red? I saw you were running Level 2 with 93 and timing bumped up +2 or +1(forgot which one). Are you getting better mpg doing this? Im using Level 2 with 87 and leaving the timing where it is. I'm not sure what mpg im getting yet but just filled up today so should find out soon. Thanks

I get close to the same mileage that I was getting on level 3. About 20 miles les on total drive when I have to fill up. On level 3 I had +1 for 93 octane and on level 2 I have +3 for 93 octane. On 87 octane and level 2 was not too happy with performance. Granted when I got my edge with in a day or two went to level 3 with 93 octane.
So I did not have alot of time on level. Ialked to somone else and saw them run level with 93 octane and decided to try it. This seems to be the combination for me. i due tow every now and then. I also bumped up my shift pressure th +10 on 1-2 and 2-3 shifts.
But I do get better gas mileage over 87 octane. I would get more, but my foot thinks other wise.

What usually happens is the owner tells the Ford service people NOT to reflash the PCM once they have purchased Mikes custom tuning. If you instruct them not to then they should never do so...
Yes, the tunes would have to be rewritten if it did occur.
By the way on Mikes 93 octane tune on my 6100# '04 Supercrew 4x4 running a 285/70/17 tire I normally see 18.58 mpg on the highway running 75-85 mph with the cruise.
Thanks Marc for the reply. I just got to thinking about, because you never know about some dealers.
I was wondering if anyone that went a dyno day at TP would post their numbers for a 4.6l. I have played with the idea of getting an xcal2.

It was running on one of Mikes 93 octane tunes, exhaust and intake, and made the same power at the wheels as a stock 5.4....It was a regular cab long bed F-150 from somewhere in Eastern Virginia...
Granted, I haven't been to Mike's (planning on the next dyno day), when I put my truck up on the dyno down here, she pulled 216.44 RWHP and 264.18 RWTQ. See sig for the mods I've done.

Just some additional input on mileage. I am running the Level 3 with 93 octane. It appears I am getting at least 1 mpg better than before the Edge so it is about breaking even cost of fuel wise. That is even with driving it more aggressively.

Hi Redrascal,
What Marc told you is basically correct - however, some of the time you can still use the existing custom tuning, but you'd need to call us first before attempting to reload is so that we can check that for you.
See, it depends on exactly what new strategy they load, it's Equizzer ID, etc., as to whether or not you'd need to have new tunes made.
The easy way to avoid this, as others pointed out already of course, is to tell your dealership not to update or "change" anything in the PCM without getting your OK first.
This is something that tends to affect the 2004 & newer F-150's with the PowerPC PCM's more than it does the 2003 & earlier trucks using EEC-V's & even older EEC-IV PCM's, but it's always best to check with us before attempting to reload existing tuning we have provided if the truck's PCM has been reflashed/updated/changed at a dealership.
