Xcal2 and Airforce 1 Question

Just received my tunes and the AF1. I was out with the AF1 instructions going over a dry run for installing the AF1. I have everything down except for one rubber washer that is included. I have a parts package that has among other things the 2 rubber grommets for mounting the heat shield and then this one other washer. Does anyone know where it goes? The only place I can think of is that it goes on the bolt that attaches the intake tube to the support bracket. Perhaps it goes between the bolt head and the support bracket to provide vibration dampning?

Ideas?

Tom

Good question. I don't recall this washer on my install... I had a *VERY* early edition AF1 though -- one of the first in fact as I was a test mule for a while...Stay tuned, someone here will chime in with help...

I noticed a couple of other things that could be improved for a novice like myself. No where in the instructions does it tell you to that you have to install the two "feet" on the heat shield that go into the rubber grommets. When I was doing my dry run with only the parts bag and the instructions I could not figure out what the two machined metal pieced with the screw in them were. The instruction say to only press the feet into the rubber grommets. Also there is no mention that you have to install the blue isolation foot on the bottom of the heat shield. There is only a reference to not tighten the screw to tight or you will crush the blue spacer.

The instructions make no mention of the plastic part that you thread into the side of the intake for the breather hose. The instructions only say to push the hose until it locks.

It would have been nice if there were a parts list included so you could verify all parts where there before you started work. This same list could also give a description of the parts which would aide in installation.

Not big things but enough to make people take time to figure out what is really needed. I am glad I did the dry run.

Just my 2 cents. Nothing big just a couple of comments that I think would make things easier.

Thanks for the picture. That is the only place I thought the washer would go. Mine might be plastic as well. I did not open up the parts bag and only looked at it through the plastic bag.

Thanks. Some really nice pictures. I guess that AF1 has changed the kit since this article was written. Mine came with metal inserts to hold the heat shield in place not the plastic ones they mention. Mine did not come with the silicon vacuum tube but rather an adapter to use the exisiting hose. Did your kit have the blue silicon vacuum hose?

Installed the AF1 tonight. Probably took me 45 minutes being very careful. Everything went just fine.

What about performance Tom? How does it feel with the AF1 and X Cal 2 custom tunes?

Haven't had a chance to check it out. Just installed everything and cranked it up to make sure the truck would start and no CEL was on. I'll give it a shake down tomorrow and try and compare it to the Edge but I will not have any actual data to compare so it will only be my feeling which by all accounts is a terrible way to compare.

I don’t either but let me say the stock line fits real tight. I had to smack it pretty hard with the palm of my hand to get it to go on far enough

Mine was tight as well. Let me ask one more question. Where did you put the strip of foam in the heat shield. I put the one piece on the top edge but where does the other piece go?

Here’s a pic of mine, but remember this was one of the original ones back when the very first came out, so I wouldn't be surprised if it's changed since then
