Worse Gas Mileage?

I am running the EDGE on my screw and went from 14.5 mpg down to 14 mps. I am trying to get the most out of each tank and its seem that driving without it is better. If I start off on the line any slower I will never get anywhere. When I ran it of level II I got about 14.5, but on level III i get 14 if I am lucky. I thought level III was suppose to get the best mpg even with the added cost. Where is the MPG gain that everyone keeps talking about?

My new tunes increased my mpg by about 1. Now I’m averaging approximately 17 mpg all local driving. I only have approximately 300 miles on the new tune but things are looking good

What are your settings or did you just use the factory level?

How in the world can you calculate a .5mpg difference with any accuracy?! So you went 10 less miles over the course of a tank! That's hardly a HUGE loss! Are you sure that you didn't stomp the gas once? Or that you didn't idle at a few red lights for a few seconds longer than normal?

OK smart A$$, its called simple division. Or in other words I never really saw a gain. I just wanted to know if there is a good setting for the EDGE. But I guess you know everything. So why don't you go pull your big trailer around with your little truck. And take that stupid picture off.

I got TP custom tunes but recently, not quite 2 weeks ago, Mike re-did my tunes to include his latest innovations in part throttle torque management and a few other things. So far, it seems like I’m getting better mpg’s using my 93 max tune.

Looks like you're the dumb A$$ for changing ford's program to get more power, and expecting it to be getting better gas mileage. Like the engineers at Ford wouldn't already program it to optimize fuel mileage. If that were the case, the gov't would MANDATE Edges on our trucks. If you're running at the proper a/f ratio and emmissions output, there's not much that can be done to increase fuel mileage except reduce rpm and/or lessen drag. Intakes, exhaust, u-drive pulleys, e-fans, and even reducing rpm..... all lessen drag in one form or another.

Stop for a second and think what would have to change in your engine's tune, for gas mileage to increase. None of these CAN change without adverse effects in one form or another, unless your truck came tuned wrong from the factory.

And as for gas mileage calculations, take Temp1 for example. He's doing gas mileage comparisons under very very carefully controlled conditions, and he still gets variances.

Since that pic is so stupid, I'll change it for ya.

Maybe I put it on for the added horsepower and wonder why people keep talking about the added MPG. Maybe I just wanted to see if it really helped. I guess I am wrong for wondering. Nice pic!!! Your truck must be on steroids!

Did you finally get mad at people running you down about pulling the excavator? Just tell them what it costs and how hard it is to run one. Maybe that will shut them up.

People are the variable in gas mileage. It's all in your driving style, unless your truck's a/f ratio or emmissions level changed in some way. Or I guess it could go into closed loop sooner or something, I didn't think of that.

Nope. It's a machine, just like that excavator. I use it however I want cause it's mine, but I take it easy with it. I don't care what ford "says" they designed it for. I use it how I want to use it. And if it doesn't meet my needs, then I either modify it, or change vehicles. In the case of this excavator, I had to change vehicles. But it worked for holding the trailer still, while I loaded the excavator. I just pulled it a few feet and took the picture for fun. The peanut wagons aren't heavy on the back of the truck like that excavator.

People do give me a hard time about it. I thought it was kinda cool. Most people have a pic of them driving through mud, or doing a burnout(I think that's cool).... This is kinda different....

The rear strobes and controller, I bought off my fire chief. The front strobes I bought from my dealership. But you can order them from www.galls.com That's where I get a lot of my fire dept related stuff. If you get all the stuff, I'll tell ya how I mounted it out of sight and in a dry place.

And I thought they were silage wagons!!!??? A wagon that big full of silage would really be heavy, and I guess those tires would have to be solid rubber? Can't grow peanuts very well in Southern Illinois. But then again, you probalbly can't grow 200 bushel corn either.

Chester,
The horsepower in the Edge is more than expected. The edge can really bring to life a FORD. I just recently sold my 01 GMC and had a hypertech on there. I am not sure of any power gains from the hypertech, never felt any. I was worried about buying the Edge but I am happy with it. I really dont believe anything can raise the MPG like we pray it will. I am disappointed about the MPG but I never had high hopes. That's why cheap people buy that foreign crap!!!!! Really men drive gas hogs. Probably to go with our drinking habits but oh well.

I am going to get a picture soon for this website showing my truck pulling a piece of my logging equipment. Maybe I can make you proud. I have owned a dodge, gmc, and now I have a Ford. I must say I am impressed.
