What programmers are available for Super Duty gas engines? I don't think all the ones that work with the F-150s are compatible... anybody?

best bet

best bet is have mike troyer do a custom tune-my 3/4 ton van has the 5.4 2 valve engine-weights in @8200lbs- nite and day difference in stock tune versus 93-by the way- my head tech buddy at ford dealer who installed my ud pullies even commented how my van has much more grunt than his 04 3/4 4x4-phil

From my research/contacting the companies, the only programmers that work for my truck are the Superchip Flashpaq 1815 and the SCT 9415b.

Anybody know which one performs better... will be using 87 octane probably 90% of the time. Thanks!

Hi.

Your research was incomplete - those are 'off-the-shelf' ( canned) tuners, and both are not in the same league as a custom-tuned SCT Xcal2 (a.k.a 9400) from TP.

openclasspro#11's post is right on the money ...

BTW - nice bike, OCPro

Cheers
Grog

Custom tuning via the XCal2 is the way to go IMO. You’ll get exactly the tunes you want (3 of them) for the fuel you have in your local area. I’ve been running TP’s custom tunes in my 04 Screw since Dec of 04 and they have worked flawlessly. The part throttle torque Mike is extracting form these 3-valve engines is incredible

Hello Melovidov21,

I agree, your research isn't complete - our custom tuning is going to do far more for that truck than *any* off the shelf tuner.

See, none of the companies that offer off-the-shelf devices go anywhere near as far into the PCM's programming as we do - 99% of them cannot fix the issues that affect the SuperDuty Gas trucks potential for power production in particular - I can't be more specific here, as I don't care to educate the competition for free, obviously.

I don't mean to play salesman here, but if you are interested in having that truck's tuning properly optimized so that you get the best safe & sustainable power & performance gains, as well as the best overall driveability, I would suggest calling us to go over this in detail, as we have specialized in tuning the Ford F-series platform vehicles for far longer than anyone else - this is why we are called in by a number of the major chipmakers to assist them in the development of their applications as a result of our well-known expertise. I always joke that we would not be the people to tune your Honda, but we *are* the "go to" people for Ford performance tuning, especially in the F-series platform vehicles, as we have specialized in them for so long.

See, the major chipmakers simply cannot spend the time to specialize like we do - they have to make hundreds, and sometimes *thousands* of different applications to achieve their volume goals - and that is their goal, volume, volume, volume. So it's simply not possible for them to have the amount of R&D into the tuning of these vehicles that we do, nor would it be fair to expect them to, of course - just like it would not be fair to expect us to be world-class good on hundreds of different vehicle platforms!

Don't get me wrong, we carry the typical off-the-shelf stuff, too - but it does not get the kind of results that our tuning does. That's not a "knock" on them, it's simply what happens, the difference between big companies trying to force out as much volume as possible, versus us specializing and constantly refining what we do on this specific platform of vehicles.

I hope that brief info helps, & please feel free to give us a call at our number listed below, we'll be happy to help.

Beast of luck with your truck, whatever you decide!

Thanks for the info Mike!
What three types of tunes do you give for a given octane?
I'm guessing Economy, Tow & Max Performance...

What adjustments do the custom tunings make over off-the-shelf tuners?

Maybe I should just give you a call...

You have the option of three custom tunes of your choice; whatever fits your needs. I personally have an 87max, 93tow and a 93max. Mike will tune for any octane from all out performance to economy and everything in-between. You pick um

It's all up to you...he can give you 3 87 programs, or 3 94 octane programs...whatever your heart desires

Mike is a very busy guy so I suggest calling in for faster, better, and more specific answers.

(Can you tell I own an SCT xcal2 tuned by Troyer? lol)

Exactly - we make those 3 different custom tunes up based on whatever each individual customer needs, desires, how they use their vehicle, etc., and then we make our recommendations based on that.

Actually, we have some customers who pay us extra to have us make up 5, 6, 7 or more different tunes, and send them all the files so that they can overwrite existing tunes in their tuner time and again, to give them even MORE flexibility! Now this costs extra beyond the first 3 tunes of course, and for the vast majority of people having 3 different tunes is plenty, as that's 3 times what the factory gives you, with much better results.

But the bottom line is, the tunes are made for each individual based on what they need for their unique situation.
