Come to Vegas and check me out! 750 miles on my truck, I get 12.8 city, and 17.3 highway. Do I get my foot in it? On Las Vegas ramps you do, or you get ran over, or the big middle finger!
Yeh baby my truck is 6 weeks old and only 750 miles!

Oh I checked it with the old fill up and divide method.

Rick

I tried this and showed an increase. I'm running a BamaChips 87 tune with my XCal2. I put 89 in and showed about a 1.5 mpg impovement.

You can vouch for the mileage ? Sorry. I do not believe you can take a SuperCrew 4x4 getting 13.5/15 City/Highway from the factory and tune it to get 23 MPG Highway. Maybe on one tank only and then only if you reset the MPG just as you enter the highway and drive 70-80 miles down the highway; but, normal highway driving with some slowdowns and accelerations at 65-70 MPH average will not achieve those numbers and keep the engine in a safe operating temp range.

To even get close to those numbers, you have to work with the high and low fuel injector slopes, the minimum pulse widths, fuel pressure, perhaps locking the truck in open loop full time and then modifying the base fuel table to 1.20 lambda at part throttle/low RPMs and reduce air flow in the MAF Transfer Table. Then you still have to keep the truck within a safe temperature. Now, if you were burning E85 Ethanol, you can run that lean; but, you still won't get to those numbers with a 6200 lb Supercrew 4x4.

Now, just for a minute, let's say this is possible... Was emission testing done? What were the NOX levels. The Japanese have been doing this for awhile running at 15,16,17,18 to 1 air/fuel. Early tests and production vehicles in the 90s resulted in very high NOX levels making people in and around Japan sick. To get around this they added another CAT, among other mods, in an attempt to burn up the additional NOX they were creating. Pull a denso spark plug from a Camry made in the 90s. It will be white. We all know what this means.

But then maybe if you add one of those magnets or a turbonator....

I ran a Troyer tune for several months on my truck and never got better than 12.5 combined 50/50. On E85 Ethanol I am getting 11.0 with my own Pro Racer Tune; but, the E85 Ethanol is costing me only $2.42 per gallon compared to $3.32 for 93 Octane and within 30 days will cost me only $1.25 per gallon. Compared to the price of gasoline which soon will approach $4.00 (93 Octane), I could say I am getting over 30 MPG.

I have NEVER made a statement on this board that I did not thourghly believe in, nor couldn't prove. I KNOW that he had their truck tuned and was getting those numbers..FACT..
Maybe instead of coming on here and suggesting that I am a liar, you should call Mike and discuss the details with him.. I do not like being called a liar, plain and simple..
If you don't want to believe it its up to you...

Well I have a 99 with the 5.4, 2x4 standard cab 3.55 LS bla bla with a troyer tune and e-fans and under drives with 153K on the odo and I knock off 19 and 20 mpg all the time and I dont drive it very easily.
I just made a round trip to AZ ( by the way Fanuc, I was in Chandler several times) pulling a honda civic there and no load on the return trip. I averaged 14.5 mpg pulling and 21.5 on the return trip with a couple tanks giving me 22 and 23 mpg. The trip out was on exway the whole way while the return was on mostly 2 lane highways in 95 plus degree heat with some city as I passed through towns.
On day to day use, with cold start ups and highway and city driving doing like 60 to 70 miles a day I average between 18 and 19 mpg.

So I can say it is possible, but there again, I do have a bed cover.

Sled...

Quality custom tuning via the XCal2 is my recommendation. It’s the biggest bang for the buck mod you can do IMO

Marc,

I didn't say you are a liar and I didn't say Mike was either. I have a tremendous amount of respect for Mike Troyer. I have called Mike; but, unfortuantely since I converted to E85 and began doing my own tuning, I don't get return calls. He doesn't agree with running these trucks on E85 Ethanol. It's ok, I learned an awful lot from Mike and the datalogs of his 93 Hi-Perf tune. Soon, I will dyno my truck and it will show more HP and Torque as a result of tuning to E85 than it did with Mike's 93 Octane Tune. I have Mike to thank for this as well. He showed the way.

Please re-read what I wrote. Fuel economy is always an interesting subject and is kind of like a bunch of guys sitting at the bar bragging about how big it is. I can take pictures of my dash showing I am getting 16, 17, or 18 MPG while burning E85 Ethanol; but, that doesn't mean these MPG ratings are sustainable for a 6500 lb lifted 4x4 with 35s mounted.

Sorry I irritated you by stating my opinion. Sometimes my point of view might be contrary; but, it is never personal.

Buy an XCAL2 from Troyer. Then be sure to post your fuel economy after you install the tune. I am real curious now.

My mileage was from 1 to 1.5 mpg less with my Troyer tuned Xcal2. I could baby the hell out of it and it didn't matter. It also didn't matter which tune, 87 89 or 93, all the same results.

I think my mpg might be going up a bit with my new tunes Mike made me, not sure yet because I only have about 250 miles on the 93 max tune but my in-dash computer has me up another 1 mpg

That's what I plan on doing as soon as the group buy is official.

I gots to look into that.
Mythbusters answered this question. The answer was: Without the bed cover fuel economy was better than with the bed cover.
