Power w/ XcalII

I know we arent suppose to go by feeling, but my 87 Max tune feels much stronger than my 93 Max tune. It seems to accelerate faster and the shifts are firmer. It took about 7 or 8 drive cycles before I started to feel good power with the 87 Max tune. But After a couple of weeks of running the 93 Max tune it feels like I may have lost a little from the 87 Max tune. I wondering if it might be the energy level in the 93 octane fuel in my area? I am on my third tank of 93 octane all from different gas stations and they all seem to feel about the same. Maybe I can tell more after in get on the dyno in a couple of weeks.

Talking Help an Old Man out

I keep reading about two things, kinda sound alike, but need some clarifiction.
Is the Edge, Evolution and the Troyer Xcal2 the same thing?
If not what are the differences?

Thanks

They are both tuners, but made by two different companies.

Hi Andy,

There's no way that our 93 octane tuning is going to make less power than our 87 octane tuning does, it's just not possible.

Not unless something is wrong on your end, and I don't mean just having a little bit lower BTU content in the premium fuel - not with 6 points of octane difference.

Nothing is wrong your tunes in any way either, as I just spent quite a bit of time going over each of those 3 tunes painstakingly - and they are exactly correct - so that is OK.

This is precisely why we say (and as you kindly quoted) we do not use seat of the pants impressions. So at this point, you need to properly datalog the vehicle on each of those tunes as per our documentation, and then send us that data for us to review.

P.S. - I just had another possible thought, and admittedly, it's a bit of a stretch - you might want to make sure that you loaded each tune in it's proper position when you used Live Load - that was one other thought I had, that you might have inadvertently loaded a tune in the wrong position. And last - remember that going to the premium gas tune is NOT going to give you say, double the performance gain that going to the 87 octane tuning from the stock tune did - you already get the majority of what the tuning does in that 87 octane tuning, due to numerous other things we change that improve performance. So from there, when you go to the high octane tuning, it's simply the additional engine power difference, so it's not like you are going to gain ANOTHER 25 HP (just for example) on top of what the 87 octane tuning did by using the premium tuning.

I hope that info helps, & good luck!

Thanks Mike,
I did check to make sure on the live load that the tunes were loaded correctly, but I will double check again. Would it be a problem for me to reload the tunes? I also have everything set up to dyno my truck on July 10th. Most of the dynos near me are either booked up or have a mobile dyno and wont be back for months. So I found a place a little over an hour from me that can get to me sooner. Only two weeks left and I will have all the results for you! Thanks again Mike.

Hi amac110,

Sure, you can re-load those tunes time and again, no problem!

One thing to remember is simply to return your vehicle back to it's stock tuning before you reload the tunes into your tuner, just to make sure it does everything properly - so first, return the vehicle back to stock, and then load the tunes into the tuner again, and then re-tune the vehicle - you can do that as many times as you want. In fact, we have some customers who have paid us to provide them with additional tunes that they keep stored on their hard drive, so that they can have more than 3 tunes - so for those guys, some of them switch them around from time to time.

I look forward to seeing your info, & good luck!
