Just bought my Edge!

I am seriously pumped. I just won a new Edge on Ebay. Its from a vendor in Canada so the shipping shouldnt take too long. Now the lousy part starts, waiting!

I am just doing some reading about the latest Edge updates. It lists added supports for calibration families. How can I check my calibration family? The only code I could find on the PCM was EAY4, does this mean anything? Where should I be checking?

IIRC, the calibration family is the first 5 character's of your truck's hex code. You can find your truck's hex code by selecting "Diagnostics" from the Main Menu, then select "Version Info."

You can also go here to check support for a particular calibration family.

EDIT: I did a bit more checking, and I think the 4-digit code you're reading on the PCM is the PCM calibration code. (See a related thread here.) Maybe someone else can expand on the differences between the two...

I just bought an edge as well. It is version 3.08.08a. I know people say that some of the early versions were better. Does anyone know if this is a good one.

You can go here to check the version history. Based on the version number you listed, it appears you have one of the earliest versions released. If you don't need the additional functionality (e.g., idle RPM adjust, IMPG and AMPG displays, etc.) and you aren't having any issues with the tunes, then you're probably OK staying with your current version.

I recall seeing a couple of threads about the tunes "not feeling as strong" in some of the later firmware versions. The newest firmware updates must have fixed this problem because no one has mentioned it recently. IMHO, you won't lose any power by updating. (BTW, I've always used the latest firmware updates and never noticed any issues.)

I have a 2003 screw 5.4 fx4 and i need some performance badly but i am very uncertain what tuner to buy. i am set on a magnaflow cat back but still undecided on the tuner. which edge is this that we are talking about and what kind of performance gains and gas mileage increase can i expect from the 5.4?
