best tuner

Just ordered the stuff to get my truck lifted and bigger tires, since my speedo will be out of accurated calibration, I figured I might as well buy a chip/tuner or whatever the correct term is. I was wondering if someone more experienced than myself could give some input regarding which brand is the best, whixh brand boosts horsepower the most, and which results in the best fuel consumption. I know very little about them and was just hoping that somebody could give their honest opinions ( I trust those more than advertising or promotional material)
Thanks to all with a valid opinion
Robert

Boy did you open up a can of worms here. Depending on what year vehicle you have you will want to look at the Edge Evolution (2004-2006 truck) or The X-Callibrator tuned by Troyer performance ('97-2006 I believe). They both have their benefits.

I chose the Edge, I liked the ability to have some additional gauges in my truck that the Edge provides and it is the best of the "anned" tunes IMHO. Adding to that is the ability to change several parameters as performance merits (be careful when changing anything, talk to a pro before you play with them). That's my .02.

I have a 2006, I saw in a mag recently, the edge programmer that came with a dash piece so the display could be mounted in the cab, and look like it was built into the dask trim. Anybody have any feedback on how that looks, the magazine only had one small picture, and I am sure that was taken from the most appealing angle-looking for real life feedback here.
Thanks, robert

I use the XCal2 and have had excellent results in greatly improved performance and fuel economy

Does the extra dash piece only come in black, or does it come in the silvery color that the stock dash pieces are colored? That sucks to have to paint it and try to match the surrounding dash color. Look good though.

In the pic it was just sitting but I cleaned it up a bit when I was wiring for my iPod. It was super simple, I think Kool Aid was the one who posted how (if I am wrong, sorry).

Just run the wire up behind the steering wheel, go through the trim panel on the right side of the footwell (just help in with clip and kind of reach around and you'll feel the back of the ashtray. Remove the insert from the ashtray and drill a hole or cut a piece (I drilled using a unibit) for the cable and just press it in. It squuezes in to thee ashtray nice and tight, almost like it was designed for it. Secure the cables with zip ties, and you're done.

You can close the ashtray afterwards to keep it from prying eyes and it's not to hard to see from the drivers seat when open.
